Blockchain technology (BT) is a disruptive technology to achieve sustainable supply chain performance. The previous literature suggests a slow rate of BT adoption in improving sustainable supply chain performance (SSCP) in the agriculture context. This study explores and evaluates barriers and enablers to the adoption of BT for SSCP in e-enabled agriculture supply chains. using a novel hybrid technique integrating the Pythagorean Fuzzy sets (PFS), Cumulative Prospect Theory (CPT), and VIKOR. Data was collected data from 215 agriculture firms in Asia and North Africa. The results presented strategies for implementing BT for SSCP in e-agriculture supply chains and recommended (1) developing transparency readiness in sustainability, (2) collaboration among supply chain partners, (3) upgrading data access control (4) management commitment (5) collaboration with governments. The study presents several implications to managers to redirect strategies and focus efforts on the most significant enablers to promote BT implementation for SSCP in e-enabled SSCP.

The agricultural industry has undergone several significant changes over the past few centuries, influenced by the industrial revolutions that have occurred. These changes have progressed from Indigenous agriculture to mechanized farming and the current precision agriculture. While the industrial farming model has increased output, it has also faced various challenges in recent years. Industry 5.0 is expected to have a significant impact on the agriculture sector and potentially lead to a fifth agricultural revolution. In this paper, we examine the motivation behind the industrial and agricultural revolutions 4.0 and 5.0, review the phases of these revolutions that have occurred so far, and offer suggestions for the future. We also provide an overview of the concepts of Industry 4.0 and 5.0, as well as Agriculture 4.0 and 5.0, and discuss the smart strategies that are being implemented in different countries to advance these sectors. Additionally, we focus on the potential applications of Industry 5.0 technologies in the agriculture industry and the research challenges associated with them. Our goal is to provide industrial and agricultural professionals with new research opportunities.

Since the first Industrial revolution, many engineers attempted to resolve problems related to operations, machinery and their maintenance, by doing so, they tried to improve the efficiency of production processes. Decades ago, due to the introduction of computers and computational methods, a new wave of solution to manufacturing related problems emerged, those provided solutions were more accurate therefore a significant boost was given to the Industries worldwide. By 2050 The Globe's population is destined to reach 9.3 Billion and different challenges and issues are adding pressure on the current industry supply chains like transport, deadlines, cost, quality etc; the term Industry 4.0, the Fourth Industrial Revolution originally initiated in Germany, has proven to be an attractive topic in recent literatures, A new era of change birthed and it is directly linked to the Internet of Things, Cyber Physical System, Information and Communications Technologies. As the fourth industrial revolution shapes up, human operators are at the center of the change, they experience a complexity increase in their daily routines, and they are required to be highly flexible and to adapt to a very dynamic working environment. The paper discuss the term Industry 4.0, its context, raison d’être, challenges and highlight the critical issue of the employees' driven adaptability and attitudes to change.

Le Havre Port Authority is putting into service a multimodal hub terminal with massified hinterland links (trains and barges) in order to restrict the intensive use of roads, to achieve a more attractive massification share of hinterland transportation and to provide a river connection to its maritime terminals that do not currently have one. This paper focuses on the rail-rail transshipment yard of this new terminal. In the current organizational policy, this yard is divided into two equal operating areas, and in each one a crane is placed, additionally it is equipped with reach stackers to enable container moves across both operating areas. However, this policy causes poor scheduling of crane moves, because it gives rise to many crane interference situations. For the sake of minimizing the occurrence of these undesirable situations, this paper proposes a multi-agent simulation model including an improving strategy for crane scheduling. This strategy is inspired by the ant colony approach and it is governed by a new configuration for the rail yard’s working area that eliminates the use of reach stackers. The proposed simulation model is based on two planner agents, to each of which a time-horizon planning is assigned. The simulation results show that the model developed here is very successful in significantly reducing unproductive times and moves (undesirable situations) and it outperforms other existing simulation models based on the current organizational policy.

Supply chain networks are typical examples of complex systems. Thereby, making decisions in such systems remains a very hard issue. To assist decision makers in formulating the appropriate strategies, robust tools are needed. Pure optimization models are not appropriate for several reasons. First, an optimization model cannot capture the dynamic behavior of a complex system. Furthermore, most common practical problems are very constrained to be modeled as simple tractable models. To fill in the gap, hybrid optimization/simulation techniques have been applied to improve the decision-making process. In this paper we explore the near-full spectrum of optimization methods and simulation techniques. A review and taxonomy were performed to give an overview of the broad field of optimization/simulation approaches applied to solve supply chain problems. Since the possibilities of coupling them are numerous, we launch a discussion and analysis that aims at determining the appropriate framework for the studied problem depending on its characteristics. Our study may serve as a guide for researchers and practitioners to select the suitable technique to solve a problem and/or to identify the promising issues to be further explored.
