Clarifying the impact of production factor distortion on total factor energy productivity (TFEP) is a key approach to promote production greenization at the region level. To achieve it, this paper develops a theoretical model to bridge production factor distortion and TFEP with China’s four regions as the investigated object based on provincial data from 2003 to 2017. Empirical results show that there exist obvious production factor distortions in China’s four regions, and such distortions significantly negatively influence the volatility of TFEP as a whole. Specifically, the allocation of production factors including skilled labor in Eastern and Northeastern China as well as capital input in equipment purchase sector in Central and Western China can significantly improve regional TFEP. What’s more, distortions of quite a few production factors including skilled labor in Central and Western China, unskilled labor in four regions, and capital input in some industrial sectors in Central and Northeastern China can all hinder the growth of regional TFEP. Therefore, in order to improve regional TFEP in China and reduce factor distortions, the government need to focus more on the input structure of these production factors that have negative impacts on TFEP, and then promote the institution reform towards the high-quality economy growth mode.

Previous research has implied that past performance and organizational aspiration may have an important effect on the sustainable growth of organizational performance. Under the conditions of environmental jolts, their relationships are more complicated to discern. However, few studies have undertaken this investigation. Using data from 183 U.S. firms, this study proposes and tests a theoretical model of the relationships between past performance, organizational aspiration, and organizational performance at different environmental jolt levels. Through hierarchical regression analysis, the empirical findings suggest that low levels of environmental jolt weaken the positive relationship between organizational aspiration and organizational performance, while high levels of environmental jolt magnify the positive influence of past performance on organizational performance. Most importantly, the empirical findings reveal that at low levels of environmental jolt, past performance has no effect on organizational performance, while organizational aspiration has no effect on organizational performance when the level of environmental jolt is high. These interesting findings provide some implications for managers and enrich the theory of sustainable development.

This study explores personality effects on the endorsement of ethically questionable negotiation strategies in Canada and China. With a sample of over 400 business professionals, this study examines the relationship between the Big Five personality traits and the perceived appropriateness of five categories of negotiation strategies in the two cultures. The results show that the Big Five personality traits strongly affect the endorsement of ethically questionable negotiation strategies (EQNS) both in Canada and in China, but in different ways. For Canadian negotiators, individuals high in conscientiousness, extraversion, and openness are more prone to use EQNS, and individuals high in emotional stability and agreeableness are less likely to use them. For negotiators from Mainland China, only agreeableness and emotional stability are negatively associated with the endorsement of the EQNS. Implications for research on business ethics and for negotiation practitioners and policymakers are then discussed.

This study explores the relationship between moral emotions and pro-environmental intentions related to pollution avoidance and green purchasing. Findings gathered from 573 Chinese respondents indicate that pollution avoidance intentions contribute to green purchasing intentions. We also find that positive emotions (e.g., pride, gratitude) relate to both pollution avoidance and green purchasing intentions, but negative emotions (e.g., guilt, condemnation of others) only relate to green purchasing intentions. Self-directed moral emotions have stronger influence on pollution avoidance intention than other-directed emotions, but the effect of the other-directed emotions become stronger due to green purchasing intention. These effects of emotions on pro-environmental intentions are enhanced by behavioral control level. The interaction between self-directed emotions with perceived behavioral control is stronger, compared with those with other-directed emotions. This research enriches extant literature pertaining to green consumption, with important implications for policy makers and strategy formulation promoting green and pollution-avoiding behaviors.

Many research works have demonstrated that taking the combined cooling, heating and power system (CCHP) as the core equipment, an integrated energy system (IES), which provides multiple energy flows by a combination of different energy production equipment can bring obvious benefit to energy efficiency, CO2 emission reduction and operational economy in urban areas. Compared with isolated IES, an integrated energy micro-grid (IEMG) which is formed by connecting multiple regions’ IES together, through a distribution and thermal network, can further improve the reliability, flexibility, cleanliness and the economy of a regional energy supply. Based on the existing IES model, this paper describes the basic structure of IEMG and built an IEMG planning model. The planning was based on the mixed integer linear programming. Economically, construction planning configuration are calculated by using known electricity, heating and cooling loads information and the given multiple equipment selection schemes. Finally, the model is validated by a case study, which includes heating, cooling, transitional and extreme load scenarios, proved the feasibility of planning model. The results show that the application of IEMG can effectively improve the economy of a regional energy supply.

Although different self-perspectives can prompt different mindsets, leading to different responses, little is known about how self-perspective impacts pro-environmental behaviors. This study explores the effect of self-perspective, i.e., either self-immersed or self-distanced perspective, on environmental attitudes and behavior. Based on an online survey of 409 respondents in the United States, we find that pro-environmental behaviors are perceived as more important and less costly from a self-distanced perspective, compared to a self-immersed one, which in turn facilitates more engagement in pro-environmental behaviors. Furthermore, a self-distanced perspective is more prevalent than a self-immersed perspective when individuals are less satisfied with and perceive less control over their pro-environmental behaviors. This study extends the self-perspective theory to research on pro-environmental behaviors, and offers useful implications for individuals to address conflicts between environmental and self-interested considerations, as well as for public policy makers and practitioners to promote more engagement in pro-environmental behaviors.

Successfully developing new products is critical to an entrepreneurial firm’s continued success. Based on the resource management model, this study aims to answer the key research question: how entrepreneurial firms leverage network competence and technological capability to enhance their new product development (NPD) performance in a turbulent environment. Using data collected from 134 entrepreneurial firms in China, we investigate the performance effects of network competence and technological capability, and the moderating effects of technological turbulence and market turbulence. Our findings show that network competence has a positive impact on NPD performance and technological capability plays a mediating role between network competence and NPD performance. Technological turbulence enhances the performance effects of network competence and technological capability; market turbulence advances the performance effect of network competence, but fails to exert significant negative impact on that of technological capability. We discuss managerial implications of our findings and offer directions for future research.
