The present research investigates the contribution of environmental innovation to firms’ competitive advantage through the case of medium and large-sized firms operating in Greece. Due to the growing trend of environmental innovation in Greece and a consequent increase in the research interest, this paper fills the existing gap in the relevant literature as there is not enough evidence concerning Greek firms’ environmental innovation practices. To meet the research goal, a questionnaire was distributed to 892 medium and large-sized firms operating in Greece; 225 questionnaires were finally responded. The data is based on firms’ self-assessment concerning environmental innovation and competitive advantage and are analyzed using both descriptive and inductive statistics, including principal components analysis and multiple linear regression. The research results show that the examined firms implement environmental innovation practices at a moderate level. The most common practices of environmental innovation are the implementation of ISO 14001 management systems and the toxic substances usage reduction. The percentage of ISO 14001 implementation is increased compared to the previous years. Furthermore, the regression analysis revealed that the components concerning environmental process innovation and environmental product innovation have a positive impact on the examined firms’ competitive capability. The relationship between open innovation and environmental innovation and the contribution of open innovation dynamics are discussed as well.

Our modern era has brought about radical changes in the way courses are delivered and various teaching methods are being introduced to answer the purpose of meeting the modern learning challenges. On that account, the conventional way of teaching is giving place to a teaching method which combines conventional instructional strategies with contemporary learning trends. Thereby, a new course type has emerged, the blended course in the context of which online teaching and conventional instruction are efficiently mixed. This paper demonstrates a way to identify factors affecting students’ critical performance in blended courses through a binary logistics regression analysis on students’ engagement data. The binary logistics regression analysis has led to a risk model which identifies and prioritizes these factors in proportion to their contribution to the risk occurrence. The risk model is demonstrated in the context of two specific blended courses sharing the same learning design. Additionally, the outcome of the study has proved that factors related to the e-learning part have critically affected the students’ performance in the respective blended courses.

This paper deals with a probabilistic problem in which there is a specific probability for a customer to meet a seller in a specified area. It is assumed that the area in which a seller acts follows an exponential distribution and affects the probability of meeting with a customer. Furthermore, the range in which a customer can meet a seller is another parameter which affects the probability of a successful meeting. The solution to the problem is based on a bomb fragmentation model using Lagrange equations. More specifically, using Lagrange equations, the abovementioned dimensions will be calculated in order to optimize the probability of a customer meeting a seller.

In this paper, we construct optimal repeated measurement designs of two treatments for estimating direct effects, and we examine the case of compound symmetry dependency. We present the model and the design that minimizes the variance of the estimated difference of the two treatments. The optimal designs with dependent observations in a compound symmetry model are the same as in the case of independent observations.

Measuring and analyzing public perceptions of the environment are becoming core elements in promoting environmental sustainability, which is a key goal to be achieved. The New Ecological Paradigm Scale (NEP) is used as a unidimensional measure of environmental attitudes as it is developed in order to measure the overall relationship between humans and the environment. A high NEP score is associated with high ecocentric orientation. This research aims to measure and analyze citizens’ NEP score in a Greek area. Overall, the statistical analysis verified the existence of the NEP subscales, indicated increased environmental awareness among the respondents and revealed that the respondents’ NEP score is correlated with the area of residence. Furthermore, the NEP score is correlated at a statistically significant level with respondents’ willingness to pay for renewable energy expansion.

This paper aims at examining the relationship between energy consumption deriving from renewable energy sources, and countries’ economic growth expressed as GDP per capita concerning 25 European countries. The used dataset involves European countries’ data for the period from 2007 to 2016. The statistical analysis is based on descriptive statistics, cluster analysis, and autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL), and reveals that all variables are related; this suggests a correlation between the dependent variable of GDP and the independents of renewable energy sources (RES) and Non-RES energy consumption, gross fixed capital formation, and labor force in the long-run. Furthermore, the results show that there is a higher correlation between RES’ consumption and the economic growth of countries of higher GDP than with those of lower GDP. The obtained results are consistent with other papers reviewed in this study.

During the last three decades, human behavior has been becoming energy alarming towards environmental sustainability. One of the most influential initiatives towards environmental protection and increased environmental consciousness is the solidification of primary and secondary environmental education. The purpose of this paper is to investigate different environmental profiles amongst secondary education students, in light of a multi-parametric analysis that involved the contributive role of school and family towards environmental awareness and participation. By reviewing relevant studies, the benefits offered by environmental education are presented. Accordingly, a questionnaire survey was deployed using a sample of 270 secondary education students, from schools situated in the prefecture of Larissa, central Greece. The statistical methods included factor analysis and cluster analysis. Particularly, four groups of different environmental characteristics are identified and interviewed. Results suggest that most students are environmental affectionate, although there is a need for more solidified environmental education and motivation from out-of-school societal opportunities, such as in the contexts of family and public socialization. The deployed research method and analysis can be proven supportive in adopting and scheduling school environmental programs after an initial identification of the various environmental attitudes among the student population.

The aim of this paper is to analyze and evaluate the use of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and their contribution to citizens’ life quality. For this purpose, a survey was conducted using a sample of 400 residents in an urban area of the Attica region in Greece. The methods of Principal Components Analysis and Logit Regression were used on a dataset containing the respondents’ views on various aspects of RES. Two statistical models were constructed for the identification of the main variables that are associated with the RES’ usage and respondents’ opinion on their contribution to life quality. The conclusions that can be drawn show that the respondents are adequately informed about some of the RES’ types while most of them use at least one of the examined types of RES. The benefits that RES offer, were the most crucial variable in determining both respondents’ perceptions on their usage and on their contribution to life quality.

The purpose of this study is to discover the factors shaping public opinion about renewable energy sources and investigate willingness to pay for expansion of renewable energy sources in the electricity mix. Data was collected through a questionnaire applied in Nikaia, an urban municipality of Greece. The respondents have a positive attitude towards renewable energy systems. Most of them have good knowledge of solar and wind energy systems and are using solar water heating, while several respondents own a solar PV system. Environmental protection is seen as the most important reason for investing in a renewable energy system. Willingness to pay for a wider penetration of RES into the electricity mix was estimated to be 26.5 euros per quarterly electricity bill. The statistical analysis revealed the existence of a relationship between RES perceived advantages and willingness to pay for renewable energy. Furthermore, by using a binary logit model, willingness to pay was found to be positively associated with education, energy subsidies, and state support.

The aim of the present study is two-fold. Initially, this research investigates the relationship between the variables of occupational burnout and occupational satisfaction among physical education teachers who work in sports organizations of large municipalities in the region of Attica, Greece. Secondly, the relationship between organizational factors and the variables of burnout and occupational satisfaction is examined. All the teachers who took part in the survey are occupied in a municipal program called “Sports for all”. With the method of random sampling, a total of 100 questionnaires, representing 10% of the survey population, were filled out by physical education teachers, occupied in 9 municipalities of Attica (Marousi, Kifissia, Heraklion, Metamorfosi-Pefki, N. Ionia, N. Philadelphia, Ilion, Haidari). The analysis reveals that Greek physical teachers have a low level of burnout and a high level of job satisfaction. Moreover the results confirm the existence of a relationship between organizational factors, burnout and job satisfaction.

The aim of this paper is to measure and analyse patients' satisfaction with the national healthcare system (NHS) in Greece. Patients' satisfaction will be measured using the multicriteria satisfaction analysis (MUSA) method while SERVQUAL's five dimensions will be used as patients' satisfaction dimensions. The research results show high levels of patient satisfaction with medical and nursing services. On the other hand, lower satisfaction rates are recorded concerning the facilities and the administrative services which are connected with the funding and the efficiency of a healthcare system. As far as it is concerned, a major challenge for the Hellenic NHS is that the underfunding problem is solved while the necessary measures are taken in order that the optimal allocation of the available resources is ensured. The research design confirms the good adjustment of multidimensional models such as SERVQUAL in patient satisfaction measurement.

An issue that often engages researchers in recent years is the study of consumer behaviour. Due to the economic crisis in Greece, consumers' preferences and habits are constantly changing. More specifically, with regard to alcohol drinks, consumers tend to decrease alcohol drinks consumption. The alcohol drinks is a highly growing sector of the Greek economy, as there are too many firms operating in the field of imported and domestic products. As time goes by, competition intensifies more and more due to the entry of new brands in the market. There is a wide variety of products, so that even the most 'demanding' consumers can satisfy their preferences. The purpose of this paper is to analyse Greek millennials behaviour towards alcohol drinks. The research tool is a questionnaire distributed to Greek millennial consumers in the area of Athens. The main conclusions drawn from the survey is that Greek millennials despite the economic crisis which has led to a decrease in purchases, they tend to consume alcohol drinks about 1-2 times a week. Therefore, this tendency shows that the evolution of the alcohol drinks industry is possible.
