Background and objectives: The aim of this study was to research oxidative stress and thiol/disulphide homeostasis in Graves’ patients. Materials and Methods: The study included 33 Graves’ patients (research group) and 35 healthy subjects (control group). Serum oxidative stress and thiol/disulphide homeostasis (a new and automated spectrophotometric method developed by Erel and Neselioglu) parameters were studied and compared between the groups. Results: The native and total thiol levels and the native thiol/total thiol ratio were lower in patients with Graves’ disease compared to the control group (p < 0.001, p < 0.001, and p = 0.006, respectively). TOS (total antioxidant status), PC (protein carbonyl), OSI (Oxidative stress index), and disulphide/native thiol and disulphide/total thiol ratios were determined to be higher in the Graves’ disease group than in the control group (p < 0.001, p = 0.001, p = 0.001, p = 0.004, and p = 0.006, respectively). In the Graves’ disease group, the free triiodothyronine (FT3) and free thyroxine (FT4) levels were significantly positively correlated with impaired thiol/disulphide homeostasis and oxidative stress parameters (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The results of the current study demonstrated that oxidative stress and thiol/disulphide homeostasis increased towards disulphide formation due to thiol oxidation in Graves’ disease. In addition, a positive correlation of FT3 and FT4 was observed with oxidative stress parameters and impaired thiol/disulphide homeostasis.

This study investigated the antioxidant and anticancer properties, phenolic compounds, and content profile of Hypericum salsolifolium plant extracts prepared with different solvents. The total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, and antioxidant potential [(2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid), ferric reducing antioxidant power, and cupric reducing antioxidant capacity assays] of Hypericum salsolifolium extracts obtained using solvents of different polarities (hexane, dichloromethane, methanol, and water) were measured using spectrophotometric methods. The contents of the extracts were analyzed using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma—mass spectrometry methods. Anticancer detection was performed in human lung carcinoma cells using the 3-4,5-dimethylthiazol-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, annexin-V, and cell cycle assays, as well as fluorescence detection of acridine orange/ethidium bromide staining. The methanolic extract was determined to have higher activation values of total phenolics, total flavonoids, ferric reducing antioxidant power, and in the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl assay than the other extracts, and the aqueous extract had higher values in the 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) and cupric reducing antioxidant capacity assays. The methanolic extract showed a cytotoxic effect against human lung carcinoma cells (IC50: 141.96 µg/mL). It was found that Hypericum salsolifolium extract showed antioxidant and anticancer activities. It was concluded that this plant can be used as a nutritional supplement due to its glucose, phenolic compound, amino acid, and vitamin content.

This study aims to determine the bibliometric characteristics and academic trends of postgraduate theses completed in the field of oxidative stress in Türkiye between 2020 and 2025. A total of 560 theses obtained from the YOK National Thesis Center database were analyzed in terms of university, department, year, publication status, language, thesis type, and supervisor title. According to the findings, the highest number of theses were completed in 2022 (n=125), followed by 2023 (n=114), 2024 (n=101), and 2025 (n=85), indicating that research activity remained substantial throughout the study period despite a gradual decline after the 2022 peak. In terms of institutional productivity, the highest number of theses were completed at the Health Sciences University (n=56), followed by Gaziantep University (n=25) and Hacettepe University (n=24). In terms of departmental distribution, the highest percentage belonged to the field of Biochemistry (n=95), followed by veterinary medicine, physiology, and clinical sciences. It was determined that 146 out of a total of 560 theses (26.1%) were converted into scientific publications. 69.9% of these publications were in journals indexed in SCI/SCI-E, while the remainder were published in national and other international journals. A total of 909 citations were made to the publications, with 97 studies receiving at least one citation. 91.8% of the theses were written in Turkish, and 8.2% in English. In terms of thesis type, master's theses (40.5%) ranked first, followed by medical specialization theses (31.1%) and doctoral theses (25%). 56.1% of the supervisors held the title of professor. These findings indicate an increase in academic output in the field of oxidative stress in Türkiye, primarily concentrated within the basic sciences. However, the low publication rate and limited use of English are considered areas that need improvement in terms of international visibility.

Purpose: This study aims to reveal the bibliometric characteristics of postgraduate theses conducted in the field of obesity in Türkiye. Methods:This descriptive and cross-sectional study examined a total of 630 theses recorded under the heading “obesity” between 2019 and 2024 using the National Thesis Center database. The theses were evaluated in terms of publication year, institution and department distribution, thesis type, academic title of the advisor, language of writing, conversion to scientific publication, journal index, and citation characteristics. SPSS 24.0 software was used for data analysis, and descriptive statistics including frequency and percentage distributions were utilized. Results: It was determined that theses were most frequently conducted at the University of Health Sciences and were concentrated primarily in the departments of Nutrition and Dietetics, Family Medicine, and Public Health. Thesis production reached its highest level in 2023. Of the 630 theses examined, 106 (16.8%) were converted into scientific publications. Among these publications, 69 had available citation-count data, with a total of 714 citations. To account for differences in citation exposure time, annualized citation rates were also evaluated. The median annualized citation ratewas 1.00 citations per publication-year (IQR, 0.67–3.71). Most theses were written in Turkish, and master’s-level studies were predominant. Conclusion: This study demonstrates substantial academic research activity in the field of obesity in Türkiye. However, the relatively low rate of conversion of theses into scientific publications highlights the need for greater support for publication-oriented research and international dissemination of postgraduate research.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive condition associated with high morbidity and mortality. Haemodialysis (HD) patients experience significant psychological and physiological stress. Non-pharmacological interventions such as music listening sessions can alleviate anxiety and depression without drug-related side effects. Aim: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of music therapy on psychological well-being and selected biochemical parameters in HD patients. Setting: This study was conducted with 49 HD patients at the Dialysis Unit of Harran University Faculty of Medicine between May and July 2025. Methods: All patients underwent a 4-week music listening programme (12 sessions, each session consisting of 30 min of traditional music). Psychological status was assessed before and after the intervention using the Beck Anxiety and Depression Inventories. Biochemical parameters and dialysis efficiency indicators were also recorded. Data were analysed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Results: Significant decreases were observed in anxiety and depression scores (p < 0.001). Biochemical analyses showed significant changes in sodium (p < 0.001), calcium (p = 0.002), glucose (p = 0.024) and albumin (p < 0.001) levels. No significant changes were observed in dialysis efficiency indicators. Conclusion: Music listening sessions administered during HD sessions improved patients’ psychological state and affected selected biochemical parameters. This is a safe, cost-effective, complementary intervention that may increase comfort and potentially improve physiological outcomes. Contribution: This study highlights the potential of music listening sessions as an adjunct to conventional treatments in HD care.
