Accurate segmentation of brain tumor is an indispensable component for cancer diagnosis and treatment. In this paper, we propose a novel brain tumor segmentation method based on multi-cascaded convolutional neural network (MCCNN) and fully connected conditional random fields (CRFs). The segmentation process mainly includes the following two steps. Firstly, we design a multi-cascaded network architecture by combining the intermediate results of several connected components to take the local dependencies of labels into account and make use of multi-scale features for the coarse segmentation. Secondly, we apply CRFs to consider the spatial contextual information and eliminate some spurious outputs for the fine segmentation. In addition, we use image patches obtained from axial, coronal and sagittal views to respectively train three segmentation models, and then combine them to obtain the final segmentation result. The validity of the proposed method is evaluated on three publicly available databases. The experimental results show that our method achieves competitive performance compared with the state-of-the-art approaches.

Software-defined networks (SDNs) are novel networking architectures that decouple the network control and forwarding functions from the data plane. Unlike traditional networking, the control logic of SDNs is implemented in a logically centralized controller which provides a global network view and open programming interface to the applications. While SDNs have become a hot topic among both academia and industry in recent years, little attention has been paid on the security aspect. In this paper, we introduce a novel attack, namely, packet injection attack, in SDNs. By maliciously injecting manipulated packets into SDNs, attackers can affect the services and networking applications in the control plane, and largely consume the resources in the data plane. The consequences could be the disruption of applications built on the top of the topology manager service and rest API, as well as a huge consumption of network resources, such as the bandwidth of the OpenFlow channel. To defend against the packet injection attack, we present PacketChecker, a lightweight extension module on SDN controllers to effectively detect and mitigate the flooding of falsified packets. We implement a prototype of PacketChecker in floodlight controller and conduct experiments to evaluate the efficiency of the defense mechanism. The evaluation shows that the PacketChecker module can effectively mitigate the attack with a minor overhead to the SDN controller.

Hyperspectral images (HSIs) are unavoidably contaminated by different types of noise during data acquisition and transmission, e.g., Gaussian noise, impulse noise, stripes, and deadlines. A variety of mixed noise reduction approaches are developed for HSI, in which the subspace-based methods have achieved comparable performance. In this paper, a novel subspace-based nonlocal low-rank and sparse factorization (SNLRSF) method is proposed to remove the mixture of several types of noise. The SNLRSF method explores spectral low rank based on the fact that spectral signatures of pixels lie in a low-dimensional subspace and employs the nonlocal low-rank factorization to take the spatial nonlocal self-similarity into consideration. At the same time, the successive singular value decomposition (SVD) low-rank factorization algorithm is used to estimate three-dimensional (3-D) tensor generated by nonlocal similar 3-D patches. Moreover, the well-known augmented Lagrangian method is adopted to solve final denoising model efficiently. The experimental results over simulated and real datasets demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms the related state-of-the-art methods in terms of visual quality and quantitative evaluation.

Multi-transmitter structure can improve the misalignment tolerance of wireless power transfer (WPT) system, but some new problems such as a sharp drop in transmission efficiency will occur when the receiver moves to the boundary situation between transmitters. It is very crucial to solve this problem for an efficient and stable WPT system. In this study, a flexible combination multi-transmitter coupling structure based on hexagonal array coil and auxiliary switch is proposed, and the coupling characteristics under misalignment conditions has been deeply analyzed with mutual inductance model. Unlike using coupling coefficient, a convenient switching control strategy is proposed based on the primary current to activate the optimal coil working mode, and the experimental results favorably verified the theoretical analysis. Compared with the circular array coil and the square array coil, the proposed coupling structure and control method can greatly improve the transmission efficiency of the WPT system at the coil boundary, and has stronger robustness under different misalignment conditions.

Breast ultrasound (BUS) image segmentation is a critical procedure in the diagnosis and quantitative analysis of breast cancer. Most existing methods for BUS image segmentation do not effectively utilize the prior information extracted from the images. In addition, breast tumors have very blurred boundaries, various sizes and irregular shapes, and the images have a lot of noise. Thus, tumor segmentation remains a challenge. In this paper, we propose a BUS image segmentation method using a boundary-guided and region-aware network with global scale-adaptive (BGRA-GSA). Specifically, we first design a global scale-adaptive module (GSAM) to extract features of tumors of different sizes from multiple perspectives. GSAM encodes the features at the top of the network in both channel and spatial dimensions, which can effectively extract multi-scale context and provide global prior information. Moreover, we develop a boundary-guided module (BGM) for fully mining boundary information. BGM guides the decoder to learn the boundary context by explicitly enhancing the extracted boundary features. Simultaneously, we design a region-aware module (RAM) for realizing the cross-fusion of diverse layers of breast tumor diversity features, which can facilitate the network to improve the learning ability of contextual features of tumor regions. These modules enable our BGRA-GSA to capture and integrate rich global multi-scale context, multi-level fine-grained details, and semantic information to facilitate accurate breast tumor segmentation. Finally, the experimental results on three publicly available datasets show that our model achieves highly effective segmentation of breast tumors even with blurred boundaries, various sizes and shapes, and low contrast.
