The morphology evolution from monoclinic molybdenum trioxide (β-MoO 3 ) to orthorhombic molybdenum trioxide (α-MoO 3 ) and quantitative analyses of their mixtures were examined. It was found that the morphology (from spherical to elliptical shape) and color (from green to white) displayed obvious changes when β-MoO 3 converted to α-MoO 3 in ambient air at 773 K. The transformation from β-MoO 3 to α-MoO 3 resulted from a change of the internal crystalline structure. The mass percent of β-MoO 3 in MoO 3 mixtures showed an excellent linear relationship with the relative intensity ratio of the strongest peaks in X-ray diffraction patterns. This approach provides a simple and time-saving method to evaluate the amount of β-MoO 3 , which is a promising material in catalyst and electrochemical applications, in such mixtures. This finding may provide guidance for the analysis of catalytic performance of MoO 3 mixtures. In addition, it was found that β-MoO 3 can be easily decomposed into suboxides such as MoO 2 and Mo 4 O 11 in pure argon gas atmosphere. The possible decomposition mechanism of β-MoO 3 is discussed.

Converter vanadium slag is a byproduct of the iron making process when the vanadium titanomagnetite is used as iron raw material. A cleaner process including calcified roasting, dilute acid leaching, precipitation purification, vanadium precipitation with ammonium salt, followed by thermal decomposition was proposed to extract vanadium resource from this slag. And then vanadium pentoxide with purity over 98% was prepared, which can be used as additives for high strength low alloy steel production. A total vanadium recovery beyond 80% was achieved in this whole process. Since no sodium and potassium salt was introduced, wastewater generated was closed-circulating after removing the enriched impurities of P, Si, Ti and Cr with adding powder CaO. The content of V2O5 in residues after vanadium extraction was lower than 1.2 wt.%, while other valuable metals like Fe, Mn, Cr and Ti were concentrated. With no alkaline metal salts added in this process, the metal resources of Fe, Mn, Cr and Ti in the residues were more feasible to be recovered with pyrometallurgy processes.

This study investigated the microstructure and mechanical properties of hot-rolled and cold-rolled medium-Mn transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) steel. The experimental steel, processed by quenching and tempering (Q & T) heat treatment, exhibited excellent mechanical properties for hot-rolled and Q & T steels (strength of 1050–1130 MPa and ductility of 16–34%), as well as for cold-rolled and Q & T steels (strength of 878–1373 MPa and ductility of 18–40%). The mechanical properties obtained after isothermal holding at 775 °C for one hour for cold-rolled/Q & T steel were superior to that of hot-rolled/Q & T steel. Excellent mechanical properties were attributed to the large amount of retained austenite, which produced a discontinuous TRIP effect. Additionally, the differences in mechanical properties correlated with the morphology, stability and content of retained austenite. The cold-rolled sample, quenched from 650 °C (CR 650°C) had extensive TRIP effects in the middle and late stages of the deformation, leading to better mechanical properties. The fracture modes of the hot-rolled sample, quenched from 650 °C, and the cold-rolled sample quenched from 650 °C, were ductile fractures, resulting in excellent ductility.
