Hepatocellular carcinoma is a primary liver cancer that develops in a background of chronic liver disease, meaning that it usually develops in a fibrotic or cirrhotic liver. This creates an environment that is favourable for tumour growth. In my group, we try to identify the underlying mechanisms that are responsible for creating a favourable tumour environment, and we try to find strategies to prevent or slow down the development of hepatocellular carcinoma.
