Dr. Andre R Barbosa’s research focuses on developing experimental testing programs and numerical tools geared to improving the resilience of the built environment to natural hazards (earthquake, tsunamis, and hurricanes), with a focus on reinforced concrete and mass timber structures. He joined Oregon State University (OSU) in 2011. For nearly 20 years, having completed his Ph.D. at the University of California in San Diego (UCSD), he has been the Cecil and Sally Drinkward Professor in Structural Engineering at OSU. He holds an Honorary Professor position at the University of Bristol and an Adjunct Professor position at the Composite Materials & Engineering Center at Washington State University. His efforts and outputs have received various awards, such as the 2017 State of Oregon Daily Journal of Commerce Newsmaker for contributions to the Cross-Laminated Timber Industry in Oregon and the 2023 ASCE Croes Medal for his work on soil–structure interaction.
