This study extends the fueling station location problem to consider interdependencies with fuel delivery. Specifically, we present a new variant of the bi-objective capacitated location routing problem (bi-objective CLRP), flow capturing location problem with fuel delivery (FCLP-FD), to simultaneously determine the location of hydrogen fueling stations (HFSs) and routing decisions for hydrogen delivery trucks. The FCLP-FD is proposed to overcome barriers to the deployment of HFSs. The HFS network is determined while maximizing the fueling demand flow captured and minimizing the total daily cost. The metaheuristic algorithm of adaptive large neighborhood search (ALNS) was developed, and its performance on solving bi-objective optimization problems was tested and compared with the genetic algorithm (GA). The developed model and algorithms were applied to a case study in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France. Results show that the model improved the understanding of decision-makers about various components within the HFS network and provides useful managerial insights regarding the role of fleet composition and physical forms of hydrogen. In terms of algorithm performance, the GA was faster than ALNS for all the tested instances; however, ALNS is characterized by a better average gap, which is the differences between the obtained Pareto front (generated by ALNS) and the optimal one (generated using IBM ILOG CPLEX Optimization Studio).

Widespread interference of human activities has resulted in major environmental problems, including pollution, global warming, land degradation, and biodiversity loss, directly affecting the sustainability and quality of the environment and ecosystem. The study aims to address the impact of the extraction of natural resources and globalization on the environmental quality in the South Asian countries for the period 1991–2018. A new methodology Dynamic Common Correlated Effects is used to deal with cross-sectional dependence. Most previous studies use only carbon dioxide emissions, which is an inadequate measure of environmental quality. Besides carbon dioxide emissions, we have used other greenhouse gas emissions like nitrous oxide and methane emissions with a new indicator, “ecological footprint”. Long-run estimation results indicate a positive and significant relationship of natural resources with all greenhouse gas emissions and a negative association with the ecological footprint. Globalization shows a negative association with carbon dioxide emissions and nitrous oxide emissions and a positive relationship with the ecological footprint. Institutional performance is negatively correlated with carbon dioxide emissions, methane emissions, and ecological footprint while positively associated with nitrous oxide emissions. The overall findings highlight the pertinence of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ecological footprint, proper utilizing of natural resources, enhancing globalization, and improving institutional performance to ensure environmental sustainability.

Due to the cross-regional mobility of air pollution, the traditional governance mode has been difficult to implement effectively. To solve the problem of excessive pollution governance costs, we determined the spot price of emission futures with a pricing model based on an arbitrage-free interval, and constructed a dual-objective optimization model that accounts for both GDP and the pollutant removal cost. By comparing the optimal removal volumes for each cooperator with the national allocation of removal quotas, we divided actors into sellers and buyers of cooperative emission rights based on futures trading. Finally, we used an asymmetric Nash negotiation model to distribute the benefits of cooperation. To demonstrate the approach, we used China’s Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region as a case study, and found that the cooperative governance strategy can help to solve the air pollution problem. Compared with the independent autonomy model of the futures market, the Cooperative Governance Model (CGM) increased the GDP of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region by 22.143 × 109 Yuan, an increase of 0.3 %, and decreased the removal cost by 124.030 × 106 Yuan, a decrease of 0.4 %. Our results provide a reference for policy decisions on collaborative air pollution control, and can be used to promote collaborative air pollution control in other regions.

Driven by insufficient supply, malign competition and high operating cost of China Railway (CR) Express, this paper investigates the selection of consolidation centres in China. It first constructs an evaluation indicator system for determining an origin city’s suitability as a consolidation centre, and then uses TOPSIS to rank 48 origin cities (operating CR Express directly) as consolidation candidates. After that, cluster analysis and correspondence analysis are applied to select the consolidation centres among 48 candidates. Ten of them — Tianjin, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu, Urumchi, Xi’an, Zhengzhou, Changsha, Shanghai and Harbin are finally identified as CR Express consolidation centres. Based on this result, this paper constructs the consolidation networks based on the shortest highway distance within 500 km from origin cities to the consolidation centres.

With the rapid development of the internet, the number of offline customers in the bank branches decreases, and the existing layout of branches leads to the increase of operation cost, which has an impact on the sustainable operation of commercial banks. Adjusting and optimizing the layout of the physical branches of commercial banks can not only reduce the operation cost of banks and avoid the waste of resources, but is also crucial to the sustainable operation of commercial banks. First, an evaluation index system (deposit; loan; number of vouchers; maintenance, establishment, and modification of customer information; number of counter transactions) is constructed to reflect the operation performance of bank branches. Second, the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) is used to rank the bank branches. Then, a combination of factor analysis and assignment method is used to identify redundant bank branches. Last, cluster analysis is used to find alternative schemes of redundant bank branches. Finally, Shaanxi Rural Credit Cooperatives Union in Hanzhong, Shaanxi Province, China is selected for empirical analysis. The results show that: four redundant bank branches are identified, and alternative combination schemes of the redundant bank branches are determined. The redundancy identification method in this paper is helpful for commercial banks to allocate various resources rationally and reduce operation cost, so as to ensure the sustainable operation of commercial banks.

Government subsidies are a common policy adopted to promote energy conservation and emission reduction. The decision-making that occurs within the green supply chain for energy-saving products under government subsidies is an area of great academic interest and game theory is becoming a popular tool in such research. In this paper, we examined centralized and decentralized decision-making models for the green supply chain and a coordinated decision-making model for revenue-sharing contracts based on game theory. We studied the effects of government subsidies on retail prices, energy conservation levels, market demand, supply chain profits, and social welfare for energy-saving products. We then compared the effectiveness of the three models using a numerical example. Our results revealed the range of contract parameters for which manufacturer and retailer profits increase. Our results show that government subsidies can significantly improve social welfare and promote the improvement of energy-saving products. Centralized decision-making generates higher profits than decentralized decisions and government subsidies were positively correlated with the level of energy conservation, product prices, and market demand. Revenue sharing contract coordination decisions can coordinate the supply chain and achieve the same effect as centralized decisions.
