Miguel Arevalillo-Herráez worked as a post-doctoral research fellow and a senior lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University until 1999. Then, he left to work for the private industry for a one-year period and came back to the academy in 2000. He was the program leader for the computing and business degrees at the Mediterranean University of Science and Technology until 2006. Since then, he has served the University of Valencia (Spain), currently as a full professor in artificial intelligence.
