With the recently published standard, wireless charging systems for electric vehicles (EVs) are at the stage of preparing for mass market production. In order to have success, safe, and efficient wireless power transfer (WPT) public charging needs to be ensured and therefore interoperability is a key element in the design of such systems. In this article, a design methodology based on impedance planes is presented, which enables consideration of many interoperability aspects at an early stage in the design and has a high degree of flexibility. Four impedance interfaces are presented and operational boundaries and system requirements are added at each interface to establish capability ranges, which can be transferred to any other interface and used to define and assess the design space. Furthermore, this article shows how magnetic field leakage limitations can be considered in the design process. Experimental verification of the simulations is then undertaken and an example presented of how the primary electronics for a public charging use case scenario could be assessed or designed.
The paper presents a feasibility study for full-electric aircraft in terms of a conversion design. The advancement of energy storage technologies has given the potential to fully electrify future transport systems. The means of electrifying aircraft are to reduce carbon emission and increase efficiency in air transport. This paper studies the feasibility of developing an all-electric short to midrange aircraft. The study investigates the possibility of replacing the aircraft’s conventional system with an all-electric drive train. Using the current conventional aircraft model, different types of electrical systems are compared to examine their advantages and limitations. The parameters of De Havilland Canada Dash 8 (DH8D) and the average flight are used to analyze the feasibility of completing a desired range. The results show that the electrification of aircraft with the studied propulsion system is not feasible for the conventional range, but producing an all-electric aircraft is possible when the technology allows for it. Additionally, a reliability analysis is conducted for both the conventional and the electrified version of aircraft, including different electric topologies, whereas a multiple electric motor topology is nearly as available as the conventional one.
Synchronous Reluctance machines are on the line to significant torque ripple development if they are not carefully designed. Since torque ripple causes vibrations and noise in electrical machines it is generally unwanted. In servo-applications with a great speed and position control importance, the torque ripple of the motor also is a main performance criterium and its reduction needs to gain special attention. In this paper the influence of the flux barrier shape and width as well as the flux barriers position on the torque ripple is studied. In order to reduce torque ripple, the effect of continuous and discrete rotor skewing of multiple flux barrier rotor is investigated by means of finite element method investigations which include all saturation and cross magnetization effects. As a result a design method to significantly reduce the torque ripple with slight effect on the average torque is shown.
The following article describes the development and evaluation of alternative concepts to improve the energy budget of an existing vehicle by using a total vehicle simulation. Based on extensive measurements, the behavior and all relevant elements of the vehicle have been analyzed, modeled and validated. The simulation results enable an integral quantification of improvement potential. One of the essential results is the influence of hybrid driving functions on the thermal behavior of the vehicle as well as the impact on the fuel consumption. By dint of simulation experiments, the maximum fuel saving potential has been calculated for various driving cycles, control strategies and configurations.
This paper deals with the reliability of today's induction machines. The fault tree analysis is presented including the most important parts of the machine, whereas the bearings are emphasized within this paper. The general focus is set on data acquisition, their analysis, and the resulting statistics which finally allow to derive tendencies and perspectives regarding the reliability of induction machines. Hence, it gets obvious that despite the significant advances in the field of new materials and technologies, the average failure probability of induction machines approximately remained at the level of the 1970s.

Currently, the vehicular power system is undergoing significant changes. One of the most promising advances thereby are electronic fuses (eFuses) which are intended to replace the state-of-the-art melting fuses. On the one hand, eFuses are beneficial to meet the requirements for highly automated or autonomous driving functions. On the other hand, compared to melting fuses, they also offer advanced protection mechanisms and enhanced diagnosis functions as well as wiring harness optimization potentials. This article provides a comprehensive review about the current state of research regarding vehicular eFuses. The general structure and basic functionalities such as protection mechanisms are explained, followed by an overview of state-of-the-art eFuse hardware solutions. Available investigation methods of eFuses such as simulation models are shown. The effect of eFuses on other system components is explained and compared to melting fuses. A comparative overview and discussion of benefits and drawbacks of eFuses and melting fuses complete the review. This article will be beneficial not only for research institutions, industry professionals, but also for anyone who is inexperienced in the field of vehicular power systems as a reference of the current state of research regarding vehicular eFuses.
