The present paper is a proposal of socio-economic sustainability of the water resource of the Magdalena lagoon in the Atillo lake complex of the Sangay National Park in the province of Chimborazo, by means of the indirect method of travel costs. In this study, spatial indicators of hydric situation are established and homogeneous units are established with GIS techniques, in order to find the optimal distance to apply the concentric circle methodology in the use of the econometric tool of travel costs. According to the image analysis, it can be concluded that the lake is in retreat; however, it still has limnimetric limits that are still stable. Because of this, it is proposed to limit the number of visits to the area to less than 300 per month and cost opportunity is proposed, for socio-economic sustainability, from the homogeneous units, where the price is considered by estimating the market price, the result being equal to the cost of the trip + Cost of travel time, based on the average stay time that does not exceed one day for the support of the ecosystem

This article evaluates the impact of road safety management interventions in Ecuador, focusing on policies, programs, and actions implemented by the government to enhance road safety. Various strategies are analyzed, including awareness campaigns, improvements in road infrastructure, strict enforcement of traffic laws, road safety education programs, and the driver's license point system established through the Organic Law of Land Transportation, Traffic, and Road Safety (LOTTTSV). The main objective is to assess the effectiveness of these measures in preventing accidents and protecting human lives on Ecuadorian roads. To achieve this, a comprehensive review of statistical data and comparative analyses was conducted to provide a detailed understanding of the current road safety situation in the country and to formulate practical recommendations aimed at optimizing current interventions and promoting a culture of road safety. The results revealed a significant impact, including a 22.56% reduction in accident rates over the past seven years and a 40% decrease in fatality rates in the last five years. Additionally, there has been an increase in driver’s awareness and adoption of safe behaviors. The conclusions highlight the need for a comprehensive and sustained long-term strategy to consolidate these advances and further improve road safety in Ecuador.

This study evaluates, through a comparative statistical analysis, the predictive performance of empirical equations for estimating peak discharge during earthen pond failures, using a curated dataset of 78 reliable historical failure cases covering the documented period of available records, selected from an initial international database of 1893 cases. The analysis focuses on reservoirs with storage volumes below 6 hm3, a range that remains insufficiently addressed by existing breach-outflow models despite its importance for hydraulic, mining, and agricultural infrastructures. The procedure established a key comparative evaluation between equations to define the fit volume intervals. The results indicate that predictive uncertainty and error dispersion increase significantly as reservoir volume decreases, with a critical high-variability interval identified between 3.5 and 6 hm3 for both overtopping and piping failure mechanisms. A key finding is that predictive performance is strongly dependent on stored volume segmentation, as no single empirical formulation dominates the entire volume range; instead, 10 of 63 different equations achieve optimal accuracy within 5 specific storage intervals considering the RMSE, MAD and MAE error values. These findings emphasize the necessity of volume-dependent equation selection, based on comparative performance evaluation, and the development of specialized predictive models for small earthen reservoirs to ensure reliable risk assessment.
