In the recent years, design science has gained significant interest in the information systems development field. In the HCI research community it also proved to be an applicable and often used research framework for design and evaluation of user experience constructs. In this paper we presented the results of a systematic mapping study performed on more than 250 literature sources in order to obtain the information on which UX evaluation techniques are used by researches when performing design science research methodology in creation of UX related artifacts. The analysis resulted in 43 included papers which were classified in five relevant groups. Most of the included studies (21) reported the use different questionnaires in order to evaluate created UX artifacts. The keyword analysis showed that 32 different keywords were used when reporting the UX design and evaluation techniques.

In this paper we present a model for user experience (UX) design and an architectural design of the IoT ecosystem employed in students’ activities tracking. It builds on an idea to apply IoT in the learning process of college students in order to provide better insight into the origin of their success, and possibly to improve it. The Ideation phase of the IoT ecosystem was conducted by using a questionnaire and focus group techniques to identify students’ needs, as well as UX research techniques to empathize with future users in order to deliver broad ideas for the future IoT ecosystem. System functionalities and requirements were determined in two iterations aiming to propose IoT ecosystem architecture during the IoT ecosystem design phase. Finally, UX design process included a design of wireframes and interactive prototype to deliver mobile application interface that would be used in evaluating anticipated user experience of the introduced IoT ecosystem.

The paper presents the results of research on user experience dimensions related to mobile application prototype which is a part of a complex IoT ecosystem. In the ongoing research we explore the possible use of IoT in ecosystem consisting of software, hardware and liveware employed in student’s activities tracking and success prediction. By carefully reviewing pertinent current studies in the field, we determined a finite set of items and attributes that constitute the anticipated UX in the context of IoT and employed them to design a measuring instrument in the form of a questionnaire. An empirical study was carried out with an objective to examine the psychometric features of the questionnaire. University students served as a representative sample of end users. During study, participants were asked to conduct predefined scenarios of interaction with IoT ecosystem prototype and then evaluate it by completing the questionnaire. Study findings helped us identify to what extent IoT ecosystem prototype has met requirements of relevant UX dimensions and which direction should we follow when considering its design.

There are very few countries that have provisions addressing the energy efficiency of the whole street lighting system, such as Spain or the Netherlands. Nevertheless, there is not an agreement about how energy efficiency must be assessed. The Spanish Government contemplates it in the Royal Decree 1890/2008 with the goal of improving energy savings and efficiency. However, this has not obtained the expected results. Nowadays, energy efficiency of this kind of systems is assessed using a label. In the case of Spain, this label only assesses one magnitude. The contributions of this paper are two evaluation systems (kiviat diagram and pie chart) which assess five magnitudes: lamps, energy efficiency index, light pollution, renewable energy contribution, and harness of the luminous flux using dimming. After that, a survey was done to study several subjects: (1) if citizens are aware about the efficiency of street lighting systems, (2) whether the sample of colors used in the label is adequate, and (3) if our proposed systems could replace the current evaluation system. Finally, the paper finishes with the conclusions of the survey

The paper presents the results of literature review performed in order to identify newly created methodologies targeting the development of mobile applications. As mobile development differs from development of other software systems we also discuss the challenges of such development and recon that methodological approach in development is necessary. However, there were no systematic studies identifying methodologies for mobile applications development. Systematic literature review we performed included more than 6700 initial studies, identified 49 (0.73%) potentially relevant studies, and after extracting data and applying quality check procedures 14 methodologies are identified. Only one of these methodologies is reported to be used in practice.

Street lighting has a big impact on the energy consumption of Spanish municipalities. To decrease this consumption, the Spanish government has developed two different regulations to improve energy savings and efficiency, and consequently, reduce greenhouse-effect gas emissions. However, after these efforts, they have not obtained the expected results. To improve the effectiveness of these regulations and therefore to optimize energy consumption, a study has been done to analyze the different devices which influence energy consumption with the intention of better understanding their behavior and performance. The devices analyzed were lamps, ballasts, street lamp globes, control systems and dimmable lighting systems. To improve their performance, they have been analyzed from three points of view: changes in technology, use patterns and standards. Thanks to this study, some aspects have been found that could be taken into account if we really wanted to use energy efficiently.

Energy consumption rose about 28% over the 2001 to 2011 period in the Spanish residential sector. In this environment, domestic hot water (DHW) represents the second highest energy demand. There are several methodologies to estimate DHW consumption, but each methodology uses different inputs and some of them are based on obsolete data. DHW energy consumption estimation is a key tool to plan modifications that could enhance this consumption and we decided to update the methodologies. We studied DHW consumption with data from 10 apartments in the same building during 18 months. As a result of the study, we updated one chosen methodology, adapting it to the current situation. One of the challenges to improve efficiency of DHW use is that most of people are not aware of how it is consumed in their homes. To help this information to reach consumers, we developed a website to allow users to estimate the final electrical energy needed for DHW. The site uses three estimation methodologies and chooses the best fit based on information given by the users. Finally, the application provides users with recommendations and tips to reduce their DHW consumption while still maintaining the desired comfort level.

The available researches that referred mobile platforms fragmentation problem showed that current solutions, although many, converge into several groups that have common advantages and disadvantages and are based on the same principle: code ones, run anywhere. Thus, the new approach that would enable the developers to use native development environments was necessary. This paper introduces an ontology oriented approach that is based on methodological interoperability. Important assumption of the ongoing research presented in this paper is that during the development process the development team should use the same methodology and the same approach while developing for multiple mobile platforms. This will enhance this process with the artifacts reuse possibility according to the ontologically described knowledge.

In facing the problem of building a complex yet fast and resource efficient enterprise resource planning (ERP) or extended resource planning (XRP) system the first obstacle is the creation of a bill of materials (BoM) algorithm, which is used to calculate material needs according to the production plan. Taking into consideration different possibilities of BoM implementation, we compared linked lists, tree structure and matrix implementation in relation to algorithm complexity. As we came to the conclusion that none of them suits the needs of modern systems, we proposed a new BoM algorithm called multiple linked list implementation. It combines the advantages of other implementations with a new approach based on two complex data structures used to represent both the data and relationships between products, parts or components used in production.

Different modern information and communication technologies are emerging in all segments of our lives. The simplicity of using these high-tech and high-performance components enables us to build a wide range of enhanced and fast-in-reaction telemedical systems with the purpose of improving the quality of living. While building these systems it is easy to overlook or underestimate the need for data security and privacy protection. Telemedicine and e-health laws, regulations and standards, along with other telemedicine infrastructure components in the USA, Europe and Croatia are compared and discussed in this paper. After the common model for integrated mobile telemedical system is proposed with the example of heart-work monitoring system, all possible vulnerable and weak points in its architecture are identified and recommendations on design and implementation of similar systems are also discussed and given.
