Copper oxide (CuO)-decorated cerium oxide (CeO2) nanoparticles were synthesized and used to detect glucose non-enzymatically. The morphological characteristics and structure of the nanoparticles were characterized through transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The sensor responses of electrodes to glucose were investigated via an electrochemical method. The CuO/CeO2 nanocomposite exhibited a reasonably good sensitivity of 2.77 μA mM−1cm−2, an estimated detection limit of 10 μA, and a good anti-interference ability. The sensor was also fairly stable under ambient conditions.
Copper oxide/manganese dioxide (CuO/MnO 2 ) nanocomposites were prepared by a facile microwave‐assisted synthesis method in an ordinary household microwave oven and used for electrochemical supercapacitor. The nanocomposites were characterised by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X‐ray diffraction. Electrochemical results demonstrate that CuO/MnO 2 nanocomposites have better capacitance performance than pure CuO material. The CuO/MnO 2 nanocomposites have a high specific capacitance of 499.0 F/g at a current density of 0.5 A/g in 6 M KOH electrolyte. In addition, an asymmetric supercapacitor with activated carbon as a negative electrode and CuO/MnO 2 nanocomposite as a positive electrode was also successfully prepared. This asymmetric device exhibits a high energy density of 32.07 Wh/kg at a power density of 375.02 W/kg and fairly good cycling stability.
The development of a reliable electrochemical sensor for detecting melamine is crucial given the adverse effect of melamine on the health of humans, especially infants. Here, a chitosan (CS)/graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposite was prepared and used as an electrochemical sensor. The morphology of this nanocomposite was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, and its structure was investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. Electrochemical experiment results showed that CS/GO nanocomposites exhibit excellent sensing properties to melamine and have an ultrahigh sensitivity of 54.6 μA μM−1 cm−2, a linear range of 4–2300 ppb, and a calculated limit of detection of 0.83 ppb. This material also exhibits positive anti-interference property and fairly accurate measurement in real milk, thus ensuring that the present sensing platform can be utilized for practical applications, such as food inspection.
The electrode based on cerium oxide (CeO2) nanorods embedded in nickel hydroxide (Ni(OH)2) matrix were prepared and used for detecting glucose non-enzymatically. The materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and so on. The results indicate that the response of CeO2/Ni(OH)2 nanocomposite are significantly improved due to the synergetic effect between CeO2 and Ni(OH)2. The optimum CeO2/Ni(OH)2 nanocomposite electrode exhibits a detection range from 2 μM to 6.62 mM, a sensitivity of 594 μA mM−1 cm−2, an estimated detection limit of 1.13 μM, and a response time less than 5 s. In addition, this biosensor also shows good selectivity, long term stability, and accurate measurement in juice on sale.
