Cracked preserved eggs can easily decay, emit a peculiar smell, and cause cross-infection. The identification of cracked preserved eggs during production suffers from low efficiency and high cost. This paper proposes an online detection and identification method of cracked preserved eggs to address this issue. First, the images of preserved eggs are collected online. Then, each collected image is cut into a single image of the preserved egg, and the images of different surfaces of the same preserved egg are respectively spliced by the sequential splicing scheme and the matrix splicing scheme. Finally, the data sets obtained by the two stitching methods are exploited to establish a deep learning detection model. The experimental results indicate that the MobileNetV3_egg model, an improved version of the MobileNetV3_large model, achieves the best recognition ability for cracked preserved eggs by using the matrix splicing scheme. The accuracy reaches 96.3%, and the detection time for 300 images is only 4.267 s. The proposed method can meet the needs of actual production, and the application of this method will make the identification of cracked preserved eggs more automated and intelligent.

Support vector machine (SVM) has been applied in data classification and defect recognition in various scenes, the common kernels are not always suitable to satisfy the requirement of high accuracy and efficiency inspection. A new hybrid conditional kernel (HCK) and SVM model based on exponential functions is proposed in this article, the validity and feasibility of the basic characterizations are introduced theoretically first, and the numerical classification results for different datasets are calculated and compared with related algorithms. Then, the performance evaluation of the new model from the perspective of kernel parameter investigation, statistical data analysis, and experimental verification are conducted, and the wire rope defect inspection sample sets are built according to features extraction and eigenvalues computation. Finally, the comparison results where the new HCK based SVM can reach almost the highest classification accuracy of 91.70% and least running time of 0.1968 s for five different wire rope defects among 12 machine learning models not only prove the superior performance of the proposed method in wire rope defect recognition, but also show great promise in high precision classification in other application fields. The limitations of this model and future work are also discussed.

This paper presented a non-destructive approach for detection of intact and crack eggs using transmission imaging combined with support vector machine classifier. Two hundred brown chicken eggs, including 100 intact and 100 crack eggs were collected as samples. Transmission vision system was developed to capture the sample images. Green color component and edge algorithm based on confidence were then used to transform the color image into edge image for next analysis. Features (mean, variance and third moment) characterizing the differences between crack and intact eggs were extracted through analyzing projection functions as input vectors of the detection model. The detection model in this paper was conducted by support vector machine (SVM). Cracked and Intact eggs could be distinguished by SVM using the statistics parameters. Experimental results showed that the overall identification accuracy in training and test sets were 94% and 93% using 10-fold cross validation approach, respectively.

As living standards rise, people have higher requirements for the quality of duck eggs. The quality of duck eggs is related to their origin. Thus, the origin traceability and identification of duck eggs are crucial for protecting the rights and interests of consumers and preserving food safety. As the world’s largest producer and consumer of duck eggs, China’s duck egg market suffers from a severe lack of duck egg traceability and rapid origin identification technology. As a result, a large number of duck eggs from other regions are sold as products from well-known brands, which seriously undermines the rights and interests of consumers and is not conducive to the sound development of the duck egg industry. To address the above issues, this study collected visible/near-infrared spectral data online from duck eggs of three distinct origins. To reduce noise in the spectral data, various pre-processing algorithms, including MSC, SNV, and SG, were employed to process the spectral data of duck eggs in the range of 400–1100 nm. Meanwhile, CARS and SPA were used to select feature variables that reflect the origin of duck eggs. Finally, classification models of duck egg origin were developed based on RF, SVM, and CNN, achieving the highest accuracy of 97.47%, 98.73%, and 100.00%, respectively. To promote the technology’s implementation in the duck egg industry, an online sorting device was built for duck eggs, which mainly consists of a mechanical drive device, spectral software, and a control system. The online detection performance of the machine was validated using 90 duck eggs, and the final detection accuracy of the RF, SVM, and CNN models was 90%, 91.11%, and 94.44%, with a detection speed of 0.1 s, 0.3 s, and 0.5 s, respectively. These results indicate that visible/near-infrared spectroscopy can be exploited to realize rapid online detection of the origin of duck eggs, and the methodologies used in this study can be immediately implemented in production practice.
