This letter presents our design and experimental verification of a wideband dual-circular-polarized antenna operating in the W-band based on an optimized waveguide septum polarizer and a profiled smooth-wall horn. This antenna is capable of transmitting and receiving two orthogonal circular-polarized signals [left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) and right-hand circular polarization (RHCP)] simultaneously to achieve full-duplex, hence, twofold spectrum efficiency for millimeter-wave (mmWave) wireless communications. The fabricated antenna shows 21% relative bandwidth from 76.8 to 94.7 GHz with axial ratio 20 dB for both LHCP and RHCP.
The benefits of terahertz (THz) radiation have increased its use, especially in imaging systems. Recently, the use of a linear sparse periodic array (SPA) has been proposed as an effective solution for two-dimensional (2D) scanning in THz imaging systems. However, the special multistatic structure of the SPA is such that it is not possible to apply fast Fourier transform-based techniques directly in the near-field (NF). Therefore, in this paper, a fast processing approach based on two Fourier techniques compatible with linear SPA is presented for NF THz imaging. In this approach, we first employ a multistatic-to-monostatic conversion to reduce phase errors due to NF multistatic imaging. Then, to improve the quality of the results, we mathematically derive an interpolation formula to counteract the non-uniform spacing of the virtual array. The modified data is then processed by three rapid techniques (fast Fourier transform (FFT)-inverse fast Fourier transform, matched filtering and a novel 1D FFT-based technique with low computational complexity) to obtain reconstructed images of the scene. Numerical and experimental results confirm the satisfactory performance of the proposed approach in terms of both the computational time and the quality of the reconstructed images.

This article presents a wideband dual-circular-polarization (dual-CP) antenna with high port isolation based on a grooved-wall CP horn combined with an orthomode transducer (OMT) in the W-band. A pair of grooves on the inner wall of the horn serves as an inbuilt polarizer within the horn antenna, which is capable of generating both left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) and right-hand circular polarization (RHCP) without any septum. The continuous linearly tapered groove design also allows this multisection grooved-wall CP horn to achieve low reflection coefficients over a wide bandwidth, thereby realizing wideband dual-CP with high port isolation when it is used together with a wideband OMT. A prototype of the proposed dual-CP antenna is designed in simulation and measured in an experiment. The simulated and measured results agree very well, showing that port isolation >32.5 dB over 31.6% bandwidth from 80 to 110 GHz is achieved with axial ratio (AR) < 2.8 dB and reflection coefficient $< -20$ dB for both LHCP and RHCP. Rotationally symmetric radiation patterns over the entire operating bandwidth are also observed with a measured gain of 19.6 ± 2 dBic.
Among image reconstruction methods, Fourier transform-based techniques provide computationally better performance. However, conventional Fourier-based reconstruction techniques require uniform data sampling at the radar aperture. In this paper, a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) scenario for near-field (NF) terahertz imaging systems is considered. A compressive-sensing-based method compatible with efficient fast Fourier-based techniques for image reconstruction is proposed. To reduce the error due to the multistatic array topology in the NF, a multistatic-to-monostatic conversion is used. Employing the proposed method significantly reduces the number of antennas and channels. This, in addition to saving hardware resources, can improve the overall performance of the system depending on the type of channel access scheme. The results based on both numerical and electromagnetic data, presented as reconstructed images of the scene, confirm the performance of the proposed method.

This article proposes an advanced THz multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) near-field sparse imaging scheme for target detection that uses single-pass synthetic aperture focusing and multipass interferometric synthetic aperture focusing techniques to improve imaging effectiveness and efficiency. It benefits from the MIMO of the linear sparse periodic array (SPA) and random undersampling sparse imaging to reduce sampling data and system cost. Both simulated and proof-of-concept experimental results have verified the scheme, revealing that the single-pass synthetic aperture imaging approach is sufficient to identify pure metallic targets with 3.87% of λ/2 sampling data. The multipass interferometric synthetic aperture imaging approach is capable of improving image quality on the image signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast, which is ideal for detecting more challenging targets. The random sparse imaging with help of the low-rank matrix completion (LRMC) technique has shown the promising potential of achieving equivalent image quality when further reducing 43.75% data in the experiment of five-pass imaging on a complex target; this corresponds to 82.51% data reduction compared to λ/2 sampling.
