This article presents a study of the effect of metal particle and carbon nanotube additives on the thermal diffusivity of a silica-gel-based adsorption bed of an adsorption chiller. The structural properties of silica gel and carbon nanotubes were investigated using the volumetric method of low-pressure nitrogen adsorption. Thermal characteristic tests of the prepared mixtures based on a silica gel with 5 wt% and 15 wt% of aluminum, copper, or carbon nanotubes were carried out. The obtained results show that all the materials used as additives in blends in this study achieved higher thermal diffusivities in comparison with the thermal diffusivity of the parent silica gel. However, the best effect was observed for the mixture with 15 wt% aluminum.

This paper presents the results of study on structural parameters (particle size, surface area, pore volume) and the sorption ability of mechanically and thermally activated sodium bicarbonate. The sorption ability of the modified sorbent was evaluated by: partial and overall SO 2 removal efficiency, conversion rate, normalized stoichiometric ratio (NSR). Sodium bicarbonate was mechanically activated by various grinding techniques, using three types of mills: fluid bed opposed jet mill, fine impact mill and electromagnetic mill, differing in grinding technology. Grounded sorbent was thermally activated, what caused a significant development of surface area. During the studies of SO 2 sorption, a model gas with a temperature of 300°C, of composition: sulfur dioxide at a concentration of 6292 mg/m n3 , oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen as a carrier gas, was used. The best development of surface area and the highest SO 2 removal efficiency was obtained for the sorbent treated by electromagnetic grinding, with simultaneous high conversion rate.
Basic knowledge of the characteristics of copper-bearing rock such as dolomite is essential to locate those areas of the deposit which have different structural and textural properties. Those regions can be important in terms of the assessment of the possibilities of gas accumulating in them as well as in terms of gasogeodynamic hazard. To better understand those threats, it is necessary to locate, monitor and analyse those areas in detail. This article characterises the structural and textural parameters of dolomite from the Polkowice–Sieroszowice copper mine in Poland. The study involved five samples from various areas of the mine. A number of research methods were selected. Reflected and transmitted light microscopy (MS), computer microtomography (Micro-CT), gas adsorption porosimetry (LPNA), mercury porosimetry (MIP), helium and quasi-fluid pycnometry (Pycno. He, DryFlo). Each of the methods examined a different scope of the pore size, which enabled to achieve a full view of the porous nature of those rocks. We determined their porosity (open, closed, total), surface area as well as mean size and volume of the pores. Also, we studied the character and the pore size distribution from a few nm to a few mm. Comprehensive dolomite properties analyses showed that these rocks are characterised by high structural variability. They have mesopores and macropores but few micropores. The analyses presented in this paper are determined by a large petrographic diversity of the deposits containing dolomite. This article is an example of a comprehensive approach to the rock analysis in copper ore mines.
The aim of this paper was to investigate the repeatability of sorption processes occurring in the coal-methane system during multiple measurement series. For research purposes, three granular samples of coal sorbent were used. The samples were subjected to a series of three measurements, each time performed under the same conditions. During each series of measurements, the following stages took place: outgassing the sample in a vacuum, and then saturating it with methane under the pressure of 1, 3, and 10 bar. Sorption capacities and the values of effective diffusion coefficients were compared. The studies into the repeatability of measurements of sorption capacities, conducted by means of the IGA-001 (Intelligent Gravimetric Analyzer) gravimetric instrument for three measurement cycles, showed that the obtained measurement discrepancies in relation to the mean value did not exceed 1.23%. The discrepancies in question approximated the measurement uncertainty of the IGA-001 device. The evaluation of the recurrence of determining the values of effective diffusion coefficients showed that the obtained discrepancies were no larger than 10%, which might have resulted from problems with fulfilling most of the assumptions of the applied unipore diffusion model. The authors did not observe any changes of the sorption parameters of hard coal during consecutive cycles of methane saturation.
