This study mainly presents the method for monitoring the surface dynamic subsidence basin (SDSB) caused by underground coal mining and obtaining parameters of mining subsidence (PMS) in the short term by using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Photogrammetry Technology. The basic ideas and methods are proposed; that is, the two-stage surface digital elevation model (DEM) is obtained in the short term by UAV; The SDSB is obtained through two phases of DEM subtraction; Based on the dynamic inversion method established in this study, the PMS was obtained. The UAV method was used to monitor the Wangjiata coal mine in Inner Mongolia of China three times in three months to obtain the three phases of DEM; we obtained the two phases SDSB by the three phases of DEM subtraction. The accuracy of DEM and SDSB were 118 mm and 121 mm respectively, Although the accuracy cannot fulfill the requirements of mining subsidence, the PMS was obtained by dynamic inversion method of full subsidence basin fitting, which has better resistance to errors; hence, the obtained PMS are reliable. Based on the engineering application, this study concludes that as a new technology, UAV photogrammetry technology can obtain the SDSB of coal mining areas in a short period with reliable PMS. Meanwhile, it has the advantages of low cost, flexible maneuverability, and so on, and overcomes the shortages of traditional observation stations, which has long observation time and high labor intensity, needs to bury fixed measuring points and easily lose them, and just has a small amount of "spot-like" observation data that cannot reflect the deformation characteristics of the whole subsidence basin. Furthermore, it is feasible to apply this method to mining subsidence monitoring and parameter inversion, and it has a great application prospect for the mining area purposes.

Mining goafs can cause many hazards, such as burst water, spontaneous combustion of coal seams, surface collapse, etc. In this paper, a feature-points-based method for the efficient location of mining goafs is proposed. Different interferometric synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR) is used to monitor the subsidence basin caused by mining. Using the principles of the probability integral method (PIM), the inflection points and the boundary points of the basin monitored by DInSAR are determined and used as feature points to locate the goaf. In this paper, the necessity of locating goafs and the traditional methods used for this task are discussed first. Then, the results of verifying the proposed method by both a simulation experiment and real data experiment are presented. Six RADARSAT-2 images from 13th October 2015 to 5th March 2016 were used to acquire the subsidence basin caused by the 15235 working faces of the Jiulong mining area. The average relative errors of the simulation experiment and real data experiment were about 6.43% and 12.59%, respectively. The average absolute errors of the simulation experiment and real data experiment were about 28 m and 38 m, respectively. In the final part of this paper, the error sources are discussed to illustrate the factors that can affect the location result.

The collapse of open-pit coal mine slopes is a kind of severe geological hazard that may cause resource waste, economic loss, and casualties. On 22 February 2023, a large-scale collapse occurred at the Xinjing Open-Pit Mine in Inner Mongolia, China, leading to the loss of 53 lives. Thus, monitoring of the slope stability is important for preventing similar potential damage. It is difficult to fully obtain the temporal and spatial information of the whole mining area using conventional ground monitoring technologies. Therefore, in this study, multi-source remote sensing methods, combined with local geological conditions, are employed to monitor the open-pit mine and analyze the causes of the accident. Firstly, based on GF-2 data, remote sensing interpretation methods are used to locate and analyze the collapse area. The results indicate that high-resolution remote sensing can delineate the collapse boundary, supporting the post-disaster rescue. Subsequently, multi-temporal Radarsat-2 and Sentinel-1A satellite data, covering the period from mining to collapse, are integrated with D-InSAR and DS-InSAR technologies to monitor the deformation of both the collapse areas and the potential risk to dump slopes. The D-InSAR result suggests that high-intensity open-pit mining may be the dominant factor affecting deformation. Furthermore, the boundary between the collapse trailing edge and the non-collapse area could be found in the DS-InSAR result. Moreover, various data sources, including DEM and geological data, are combined to analyze the causes and trends of the deformation. The results suggest that the dump slopes are stable. Meanwhile, the deformation trends of the collapse slope indicate that there may be faults or joint surfaces of the collapse trailing edge boundary. The slope angle exceeding the designed value during the mining is the main cause of the collapse. In addition, the thawing of soil moisture caused by the increase in temperature and the reduction in the mechanical properties of the rock and soil due to underground voids and coal fires also contributed to the accident. This study demonstrates that multi-source remote sensing technologies can quickly and accurately identify potential high-risk areas, which is of great significance for pre-disaster warning and post-disaster rescue.

With the exploitation of mineral resources, pollution of the ecological environment in mines has garnered public attention. Particularly, erosion of the surrounding ecological environment re-sulting from heavy metals in tailings pond could be highly concerning. Instead of traditional field sampling and laboratory analysis method, remote sensing can be used to high-precisi es-timation soil heavy metal with less time and effort. soil heavy metal content is generally low, the spectral sensitivities of various heavy metals are insignificant, and the surface landscape is complex, there exist difficulties associated with heavy metal content estimation. Therefore, herein, we propose optimization of the commonly used partial least-square regression (PLS) method. In the optimized method, a variety of remote sensing indices and the modeled heavy metals were added as modeling factors to indirect estimation soil heavy metal. The method was validated via inversion experiments of heavy metals (Ni, Cu, and Zn) in the tailing pond and its surrounding environment,it improve the goodness-of-fit of Ni, Cu, and Zn by 0.0852,0.2291, and 0.2919 compared with traditional PLS. Spatia l analysis was then conducted on the entire studied area using the estimation model of the three heavy metals. It was shown that the results were essentially consistent with the actual heavy metal distribution in the area. Therefore, the indirect PLS model with multiple factors proves effective for the estimation of soil heavy metals. It also provides technical support for treatment and evaluation of ecological environments in mining areas.
