The superpixel-based multiple kernels (MK) model uses the average value of all pixels within superpixel as the spatial feature, which results in inaccurate extraction of edge pixels. To solve this problem, a local binary patterns and superpixel-based multiple kernels (LBP-SMK) method is proposed for hyperspectral image (HSI) classification. Firstly, the original hyperspectral image is segmented into multiple superpixels by using the entropy rate superpixel (ERS) segmentation algorithm. On the HSI with superpixel index, the spectral kernel is secondly obtained by combining the spectral feature map with the radial basis kernel (RBF); By introducing local binary pattern (LBP) and weighted average filtering into RBF, the spatial kernels are obtained within and among superpixels. Finally, the combined kernel containing the above three kernels is inputted into the support vector machine (SVM) classifier to generate a classification map. The experimental procedures in this paper used LBP to extract the information in superpixels, which prevents the loss of edge features in superpixels. The experimental results show that the proposed method is superior to the state-of-the-art classifiers for HSI classification.

X-ray package security check systems are widely used in public places, but they face difficulties in accurately detecting prohibited items due to the stacking and diversity of shapes of the objects inside the luggage, posing a threat to personal safety in public places. The existing methods for X-ray image object detection suffer from low accuracy and poor generalization, mainly due to the lack of large-scale and high-quality datasets. To address this gap, a novel large-scale X-ray image dataset for object detection, LSIray, is provided, consisting of high-quality X-ray images of luggage and objects of 21 types and sizes. LSIray covers some common categories that were neglected in previous research. The dataset provides more realistic and rich data resources for X-ray image object detection. To address the problem of poor security inspection, an improved model based on YOLOv8 is proposed, named SC- YOLOv8, consisting of two new modules: CSPnet Deformable Convolution Network Module (C2F_DCN) and Spatial Pyramid Multi-Head Attention Module (SPMA). C2F_DCN uses deformable convolution, which can adaptively adjust the position and shape of the receptive field to accommodate the diversity of targets. SPMA adopts the spatial pyramid head attention mechanism, which can utilize feature information from different scales and perspectives to enhance the representation ability of targets. The proposed method is evaluated through extensive experiments using the LSIray dataset and comparisons with the existing methods. The results show that the method surpasses the state-of-the-art methods on various indicators. Experimenting using the LSIray dataset and the OPIXray dataset, our SC-YOlOv8 model achieves 82.7% and 89.2% detection accuracies, compared to the YOLOv8 model, which is an improvement of 1.4% and 1.2%, respectively. The work not only provides valuable data resources, but also offers a novel and effective solution for the X-ray image security check problem.

Lane detection is an important and challenging part of autonomous driver assistance systems and other advanced assistance systems. The presence of road potholes and obstacles, complex road environments (illumination, occlusion, etc.) are ubiquitous, will cause the blur of images, which is captured by the vision perception system in the lane detection task. To improve the lane detection accuracy of blurred images, a network (Lane-GAN) for lane line detection is proposed in the paper, which is robust to blurred images. First, real and complex blur kernels are simulated to construct a blurred image dataset, and the improved GAN network is used to reinforce the lane features of the blurred image, and finally the feature information is further enriched with a recurrent feature transfer aggregator. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed network can get robust detection results in complex environments, especially for blurred lane lines. Compared with the SOTA detector, the proposed detector achieves a larger gain. The proposed method can enhance the lane detail features of the blurred image, improving the detection accuracy of the blurred lane effectively, in the driver assistance system in high speed and complex road conditions.

Vehicle detection plays a vital role in the design of Automatic Driving System (ADS), which has achieved remarkable improvements in recent years. However, vehicle detection in night scenes still has considerable challenges for the reason that the vehicle features are not obvious and are easily affected by complex road lighting or lights from vehicles. In this paper, a high-accuracy vehicle detection algorithm is proposed to detect vehicles in night scenes. Firstly, an improved Generative Adversarial Network (GAN), named Attentive GAN, is used to enhance the vehicle features of nighttime images. Then, with the purpose of achieving a higher detection accuracy, a multiple local regression is employed in the regression branch, which predicts multiple bounding box offsets. An improved Region of Interest (RoI) pooling method is used to get distinguishing features in a classification branch based on Faster Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (R-CNN). Cross entropy loss is introduced to improve the accuracy of classification branch. The proposed method is examined with the proposed dataset, which is composed of the selected nighttime images from BDD-100k dataset (Berkeley Diverse Driving Database, including 100,000 images). Compared with a series of state-of-the-art detectors, the experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can effectively contribute to vehicle detection accuracy in nighttime.

Arc-welding robots are widely used in the production of automotive bracket parts. The large amounts of fumes and toxic gases generated during arc welding can affect the inspection results, as well as causing health problems, and the product needs to be sent to an additional checkpoint for manual inspection. In this work, the framework of a robotic-vision-based defect inspection system was proposed and developed in a cloud–edge computing environment, which can drastically reduce the manual labor required for visual inspection, minimizing the risks associated with human error and accidents. Firstly, a passive vision sensor was installed on the end joint of the arc-welding robot, the imaging module was designed to capture bracket weldments images after the arc-welding process, and datasets with qualified images were created in the production line for deep-learning-based research on steel surface defects. To enhance the detection precision, a redesigned lightweight inspection network was then employed, while a fast computation speed was ensured through the utilization of a cloud–edge-computing computational framework. Finally, virtual simulation and Internet of Things technologies were adopted to develop the inspection and control software in order to monitor the whole process remotely. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach can realize the faster identification of quality issues, achieving higher steel production efficiency and economic profits.

Camera shaking and object movement can cause the output images to suffer from blurring, noise, and other artifacts, leading to poor image quality and low dynamic range. Raw images contain minimally processed data from the image sensor compared with JPEG images. In this paper, an anti-shake high-dynamic-range imaging method is presented. This method is more robust to camera motion than previous techniques. An algorithm based on information entropy is employed to choose a reference image from the raw image sequence. To further improve the robustness of the proposed method, the Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF (ORB) algorithm is adopted to register the inputs, and a simple Laplacian pyramid fusion method is implanted to generate the high-dynamic-range image. Additionally, a large dataset with 435 various exposure image sequences is collected, which includes the corresponding JPEG image sequences to test the effectiveness of the proposed method. The experimental results illustrate that the proposed method achieves better performance in terms of anti-shake ability and preserves more details for real scene images than traditional algorithms. Furthermore, the proposed method is suitable for extreme-exposure image pairs, which can be applied to binocular vision systems to acquire high-quality real scene images, and has a lower algorithm complexity than deep learning-based fusion methods.
