The global demand for electric power has been greatly increasing because of industrial development and the change in people’s daily life. A lot of overhead transmission lines have been installed to provide reliable power across long distancess. Therefore, research on overhead transmission lines inspection is very important for preventing sudden wide-area outages. In this paper, we propose an Overhead Transmission Line Classifier (OTL-Classifier) based on deep learning techniques to classify images returned by future unmanned maintenance drones or robots. In the proposed model, a binary classifier based on Inception architecture is incorporated with an auxiliary marker algorithm based on ResNet and Faster-RCNN(Faster Regions with Convolutional Neural Networks features). The binary classifier defines images with foreign objects such as balloons and kites as abnormal class, regardless the type, size, and number of the foreign objects in a single image. The auxiliary marker algorithm marks foreign objects in abnormal images, in order to provide additional help for quick location of hidden foreign objects. Our OTL-Classifier model achieves a recall rate of 95% and an error rate of 10.7% in the normal mode, and a recall rate of 100% and an error rate of 35.9% in the Warning–Review mode.

The state of health (SOH) and remaining useful life (RUL) of lithium-ion batteries are critical indicators for assessing battery reliability and safety management. However, these two indicators are difficult to measure directly, posing a challenge to ensure safe and stable battery operation. This paper proposes a method for estimating SOH and predicting RUL of lithium-ion batteries by charging feature extraction and ridge regression. First, three sets of health feature parameters are extracted from the charging voltage curve. The relationship between these health features and maximum battery capacity is quantitatively evaluated using the correlation analysis method. Then, the ridge regression method is employed to establish the battery aging model and estimate SOH. Meanwhile, a multiscale prediction model is developed to predict changes in health features as the number of charge-discharge cycles increases, combining with the battery aging model to perform multistep SOH estimation for predicting RUL. Finally, the accuracy and adaptability of the proposed method are confirmed by two battery datasets obtained from varying operating conditions. Experimental results demonstrate that the prediction curves can approximate the real values closely, the mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean square error (RMSE) calculations of SOH remain below 0.02, and the maximum absolute error (AE) of RUL is no more than two cycles.

Insulators on transmission lines can be damaged to different degrees due to extreme weather conditions, which threaten the safe operation of the power system. In order to detect damaged insulators in time and meet the needs of real-time detection, this paper proposes a multi-defect and lightweight detection algorithm for insulators based on the improved YOLOv5s. To reduce the network parameters, we have integrated the Ghost module and introduced C3Ghost as a replacement for the backbone network. This enhancement enables a more efficient detection model. Moreover, we have added a new detection layer specifically designed for small objects, and embedded an attention mechanism into the network, significantly improving its detection capability for smaller insulators. Furthermore, we use the K-means++ algorithm to recluster the prior boxes and replace Efficient IoU Loss as the new loss function, which has better matching and convergence on the insulator defect dataset we constructed. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm. Compared to the original algorithm, our model reduces the number of parameters by 41.1%, while achieving an mAP@0.5 of 94.8%. It also achieves a processing speed of 32.52 frames per second. These improvements make the algorithm well-suited for practical insulator detection and enable its deployment in edge devices.

In the field of inter-satellite laser communication, achieving high-quality communication and compensating for the Doppler frequency shift caused by relative motion necessitate lasers with narrow linewidths, low phase noise, and the ability to achieve mode-hop-free tuning within a specific range. To this end, this paper investigates a novel external cavity diode laser (ECDL) with a frequency-selective F-P etalon structure, leveraging the external cavity F-P etalon structure in conjunction with an auxiliary filter to achieve single longitudinal mode selection. The laser undergoes linewidth testing using a delayed self-heterodyne beating method, followed by the testing of its phase noise and frequency noise characteristics using a noise analyzer, yielding beat spectra and noise power spectral density profiles. Furthermore, the paper introduces an innovative bidirectional temperature-scanning laser method to achieve optimal laser-operating point selection and mode-hop-free tuning. The experimental results showcase that the single longitudinal mode spectral side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) is around 70 dB, and the output power exceeds 10 mW. Enhancing the precision of the F-P etalon leads to a more pronounced suppression of low-frequency phase noise, reducing the Lorentzian linewidth from the initial 10 kHz level to a remarkable 5 kHz level. The bidirectional temperature-scanning laser method not only allows for the selection of the optimal operating point but also enables mode-hop-free tuning within 160 pm.

Two main protocol stacks for gigabit ethernet are currently widely adopted in the data acquisition system for high energy physics experiments. The first method is based on User Datagram Protocol (UDP), which transfer packets before an agreement is provided by the receiving party. However, the second method, called Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), establishes a connection through a process of the three-way handshake. We designed two FPGA projects, based on UDP and TCP respectively, on such a real application as ethernet communication module for ALICE calorimeters. The test of both projects is carried out on the same Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA board, and data is captured through a professional network protocol analyzer. We analyzed the implementation methods and complexity, the variation patterns of data throughput, and the resource utilization of the two designs. The findings obtained under the same application scenario and test platform not only reveals the variation rule of actual data throughput, but also proved that the TCP would require twice as much FPGA resource for implementation as the UDP.
