A rapid increase in heart disease has occurred in recent years, which might be the result of unhealthy food, mental stress, genetic issues, and a sedentary lifestyle. There are many advanced automated diagnosis systems for heart disease prediction proposed in recent studies, but most of them focus only on feature preprocessing, some focus on feature selection, and some only on improving the predictive accuracy. In this study, we focus on every aspect that may have an influence on the final performance of the system, i.e., to avoid overfitting and underfitting problems or to solve network configuration issues and optimization problems. We introduce an optimally configured and improved deep belief network named OCI-DBN to solve these problems and improve the performance of the system. We used the Ruzzo-Tompa approach to remove those features that are not contributing enough to improve system performance. To find an optimal network configuration, we proposed a stacked genetic algorithm that stacks two genetic algorithms to give an optimally configured DBN. An analysis of a RBM and DBN trained is performed to give an insight how the system works. Six metrics were used to evaluate the proposed method, including accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, precision, F1 score, and Matthew’s correlation coefficient. The experimental results are compared with other state-of-the-art methods, and OCI-DBN shows a better performance. The validation results assure that the proposed method can provide reliable recommendations to heart disease patients by improving the accuracy of heart disease predictions by up to 94.61%.

Energy-efficient and reliable data gathering using highly stable links in underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSNs) is challenging because of time and location-dependent communication characteristics of the acoustic channel. In this paper, we propose a novel dynamic firefly mating optimization inspired routing scheme called FFRP for the internet of UWSNs-based events monitoring applications. The proposed FFRP scheme during the events data gathering employs a self-learning based dynamic firefly mating optimization intelligence to find the highly stable and reliable routing paths to route packets around connectivity voids and shadow zones in UWSNs. The proposed scheme during conveying information minimizes the high energy consumption and latency issues by balancing the data traffic load evenly in a large-scale network. In additions, the data transmission over highly stable links between acoustic nodes increases the overall packets delivery ratio and network throughput in UWSNs. Several simulation experiments are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme against the existing schemes through NS2 and AquaSim 2.0 in UWSNs. The experimental outcomes show the better performance of the developed protocol in terms of high packets delivery ratio (PDR) and network throughput (NT) with low latency and energy consumption (EC) compared to existing routing protocols in UWSNs.

The nutritional value of perishable food items, such as fruits and vegetables, depends on their freshness levels. The existing approaches solve a binary class problem by classifying a known fruit\vegetable class into fresh or rotten only. We propose an automated fruits and vegetables categorization approach that first recognizes the class of object in an image and then categorizes that fruit or vegetable into one of the three categories: pure-fresh, medium-fresh, and rotten. We gathered a dataset comprising of 60K images of 11 fruits and vegetables, each is further divided into three categories of freshness, using hand-held cameras. The recognition and categorization of fruits and vegetables are performed through two deep learning models: Visual Geometry Group (VGG-16) and You Only Look Once (YOLO), and their results are compared. VGG-16 classifies fruits and vegetables and categorizes their freshness, while YOLO also localizes them within the image. Furthermore, we have developed an android based application that takes the image of the fruit or vegetable as input and returns its class label and its freshness degree. A comprehensive experimental evaluation of proposed approach demonstrates that the proposed approach can achieve a high accuracy and F1score on gathered FruitVeg Freshness dataset. The dataset is publicly available for further evaluation by the research community.

Today’s rapidly developing communication technologies and dynamic collaborative business models made the security of data and resources more crucial than ever especially in multidomain environments like Cloud and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). It enforced the research community to develop enhanced access control techniques and models for resources across multi-domain distributed environments so that the security requirements of all participating organizations can be fulfilled through considering dynamicity of changing environments and versatility of access control policies. The popularity of Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) model is irrefutable because of low administrative overhead and large-scale implementation in business organizations. However, it does not incorporate the dynamically changing policies and lacks semantically meaningful business roles which could have a diverse impact upon access decisions in multi-domain business environments. This paper describes our proposed novel access control framework that uses semantic business roles and intelligent agents through implementation of our Intelligent RBAC (I-RBAC) model. It encompasses occupational entitlements as roles for multiple domains. We use the dataset of original occupational roles provided by Standard Occupational Classification (SOC), USA. The novelty of the paper lies in developing a core I-RBAC ontology using real-world semantic business roles and intelligent agent technologies together for achieving required level of access control in highly dynamic multi-domain environment. The intelligent agents use WordNet and bidirectional LSTM deep neural network for automated population of organizational ontology from unstructured text policies. This dynamically learned organizational ontology is further matched with our core I-RBAC ontology in order to extract unified semantic business roles. The proposed I-RBAC model is mathematically described and the overall I-RBAC framework and its implementation architecture is explained. At the end, the I-RBAC model is validated through the implementation results that show a linear runtime trend of the model in presence of a large number of permission assignments and multiple queries.

In this study, a weighted federated learning approach is proposed for electrocardiogram (ECG) arrhythmia classification. The proposed approach considers the heterogeneity of data distribution among multiple clients in federated learning settings. The weight of each client is dynamically adjusted according to its contribution to the global model improvement. Experiments on public ECG datasets show that the proposed approach outperforms traditional federated learning and centralized learning methods in terms of accuracy and robustness. On the client side, the suggested federated learning (FL) approach had an accuracy of 0.93, sensitivity of 0.98, specificity of 0.82, miss classification rate of 0.07, precision of 0.06, FPR of 0.01, and FNR of 0.01. FL has 0.98 accuracy, 0.99 sensitivity, 0.91 specificity, 0.02 miss classification rate, 0.10 precision, 0.01, FPR, and 0.01 FNR on the server. The server-side federated learning approach outperforms the client-side in accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, miss classification rates, and precision. The results indicate that the proposed weighted federated learning approach is a promising solution for ECG arrhythmia classification in a distributed environment. In short, the proposed federated learning approach applied to ECG arrhythmia detection aims to address privacy concerns and improve accuracy, while still maintaining the centralized framework and advanced algorithmic approach.

This paper performs parameter optimization of proportional-integral (PI) and repetitive controller (RC) with a new objective function by adding two degrees of freedom for a three-phase boost power factor correction (PFC) rectifier. The main objectives are to optimize the multiple control loop parameters for total harmonics distortion (THD) reduction and dynamic performance indices improvement, including overshoot, rise time, and zero steady-state error. The control parameters of the three-phase boost PFC rectifier are optimized through a standard genetic algorithm. After obtaining the optimal PI and RC parameters values, fast Fourier transform and dynamic response analysis were performed using MATLAB. Moreover, separate evaluation functions are used to validate the optimal results in terms of THD reduction and dynamic performance indices improvement. Furthermore, the results are compared with the existing objective functions to show the proposed objective function superiority. Simulation results demonstrated that our proposed objective function outperforms existing objective functions to achieve optimal PI and RC parameters value. Finally, simulation results are validated through experimental results. The experimental setup includes a 5kW three-phase PFC rectifier with DSP TMS320F28335 prototype hardware to verify controller parameter performance.
