The Internet of Things (IoT) has important applications in all aspects of our lives in areas such as business, military, security, and health. It is known that most IoT node designs are energy constrained. Therefore, maintaining an ideal energy consumption rate has become one of the most important challenges in the IoT research field. In this paper, an IoT Energy Management Scheme (EMS) is proposed. In this system, heterogeneous types of energy-constrained nodes are considered. The proposed EMS comprises three strategies. The first strategy minimizes the volume of data that may be transmitted through the IoT environment. The second strategy schedules the work of the critical energy IoT nodes. The third strategy provides a fault tolerance scenario that can be applied to address inevitable energy problems faced by IoT nodes. Finally, to test the proposed EMS, the NS2 network simulator is used to construct an intensive simulation of the IoT environment. The simulation results proved that the proposed EMS outperformed the traditional IoT system with respect to the following performance metrics: energy consumption rate, number of failed nodes due to energy loss, throughput, and network lifetime.

Recently, the Internet of Things (IoT) has attracted the interest of network researchers all over the world. Multimedia transmission through IoT presents an important challenge owing to nodes diversity. In this paper, adaptive versions of the real-time transport protocol (RTP) and real-time control protocol (RTCP), i.e., IoT-RTP and IoT-RTCP, are proposed. In these versions, the nature of IoT environments, such as transmission channels heterogeneity, sudden change in session size, and different multimedia sources, is considered. The basic idea of the proposed adaptive versions is to divide the large multimedia sessions into simple sessions with awareness of network status. To achieve this target, additional fields are added to the RTP and RTCP headers. These fields work under certain conditions to decrease the network overload. Finally, to test the performance of the proposed IoT-RTP and IoT-RTCP, a simulation environment is constructed using the network simulation package (NS2).The results of intensive simulations proved that the proposed adaptive versions of the multimedia protocols outperform the basic ones in terms of end-to-end delay, delay jitter, number of receiver reports, packet loss, throughput, and energy consumption.

Recently, global healthcare has made great progress with the use of Internet of Things technology. However, for there to be excellent patient care, there must be a high degree of safety for the IoT health system. There has been a massive increase in hacking systems and the theft of sensitive and highly confidential information from large health centers and hospitals. That is why establishing a highly secure and reliable healthcare system has become a top priority. In this paper, a security scheme for the IoT-enabled healthcare environment, LBSS, is proposed. This security scheme comprises three security mechanisms. The first mechanism is based on the blockchain technology and is used for transaction integrity. The second mechanism is used to store the healthcare system data in a secure manner through the distribution of its data records among multiple servers. The third mechanism is used to access the healthcare data after applying a proposed authorization test. To minimize the security overhead, the healthcare data is prioritized in regard to its importance. Therefore, each security mechanism has specific steps for each level of data importance. Finally, the NS3 package is used to construct a simulation environment for IoT-enabled healthcare systems to measure the proposed security scheme performance. The simulation results proved that the proposed healthcare security scheme outperformed the traditional models in regard to the performance metrics.
In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), data aggregation (DA) has become one of the most practical techniques to reduce processing delay and improve energy efficiency. To support intelligent applications, sensor nodes need to report heterogeneous and diverse data, which induce the demand for multidimensional DA and multifunctional data analysis. To solve the current security problems and functional requirements, we propose a multifunctional and multidimensional secure DA scheme to strike the balance between data availability and privacy. First, we design a Chinese remainder theorem conversion method with the counter to encode multidimensional data into large integers, which can be operated by linear homomorphic encryption schemes. Then, we introduce a multifunctional data analysis method supporting diversified aggregation functions, including linear, polynomial, and continuous functions. Moreover, we demonstrate that the proposed scheme can achieve confidentiality, integrity, authentication, and resistance against false data injection attacks. The experimental results show that the supported max dimension of one ciphertext in our scheme is at least twice that of existing schemes. Thus, in scenarios with high dimensions, our scheme is superior to the existing schemes in terms of computation and communication costs.
