Imbibition is one of the important methods of oil recovery in shale oil reservoirs. At present, more in-depth studies have been carried out on the fracture system and matrix system, and there are few studies on the effect of energy enhancement on imbibition in shale oil reservoirs. Therefore, based on the study of pressurized imbibition and spontaneous imbibition of shale oil reservoirs in Qianjiang Sag, Jianghan Basin, nuclear magnetic resonance technology was used to quantitatively characterize the production degree of shale and pore recovery contribution under different imbibition modes, and analyze the imbibition mechanism of shale oil reservoirs under the condition of energy enhancement. The experimental results showed that with the increase in shale permeability, the recovery ratio of pressurized imbibition also increased. The rate of pressurized imbibition was higher than spontaneous imbibition, and pressurized imbibition can increase the recovery ratio of fractured shale. Spontaneous imbibition can improve the ultimate recovery ratio of matrix shale. Pressurized imbibition can increase the recovery contribution of macroporous and mesoporous.

Volume transformation technology has become a key technology for developing low-permeability/tight oil and gas reservoirs. Evaluating the post-fracturing effect is very important for the development plan formulation and fracturing plan evaluation. In this paper, the vicinity of the main fracture is divided into the main fracture zone and the secondary fracture zone. The main fracture with infinite conductivity and the branch fracture with increased permeability are used to describe the transformation area. Based on this physical model, a numerical model considering the nonlinear seepage characteristics of the reservoir, stress sensitivity, wellbore storage and skin effects was established. Based on this numerical model, a comprehensive evaluation method for the fracturing effect of volume modification of vertical wells based on well test data and production data was established and this method was applied to three typical vertical wells. The results show that conventional vertical fracturing vertical wells can only form a single primary fracture and the range of equivalent permeability increase is very small. Volume fracturing can form a fracture network composed of primary fractures and secondary fractures, and increase the equivalent permeability of the fracture network area. The fracture half-length, equivalent permeability and reconstruction area of the volume fracturing well are dynamically changing and gradually decrease with the increase in production time and the fracturing effect becomes weak until it fails.

In low-permeability reservoirs, such as shale and tight sandstone, imbibition is an important mechanism for enhancing oil recovery. After hydraulic fracturing treatment, these reservoirs create a network of fracture pathways for fluid flow. Therefore, understanding the imbibition mechanisms in fractured porous media and quantitatively characterizing oil–water distribution are crucial for the development of low-permeability reservoirs. In this study, a mathematical model of two-phase flow in porous media with branching fractures was established. The phase-field method was employed to track the oil–water interface, and quantitative characterization of imbibition was conducted based on fractal theory, and the effects of wetting phase injection rate, the number of disconnected fractures, fracture spacing, and fracture morphology on imbibition in branched fracture porous media were discussed. The research findings indicate that in branched fracture porous media, both co-current and countercurrent imbibition processes occur simultaneously, and there exists a diffusion interface layer with a certain thickness at the oil–water interface. The hydraulic pressure generated by the wetting phase injection rate provides the driving force for imbibition oil recovery, but it also affects the contact time between the wetting and non-wetting phases. The presence of disconnected fractures hinders the propagation of hydraulic pressure, reducing the effectiveness of imbibition. The imbibition displacement zone is limited and occurs only within a certain range near the fractures. As the number of branching fractures increases, the channels for the wetting phase to enter matrix pores are enhanced, resulting in higher efficiency of imbibition displacement of the oil phase. The results of this research can provide guidance for the design of fracturing programs and recovery prediction in low-permeability reservoirs.

Hydraulic fracturing technology has become a key technology for the development of low-permeability/tight oil and gas reservoirs. The evaluation on the postfracturing effect is imperative to the formulation and implementation of the fracturing and development plan. Based on the characteristics of the flow in fracture network after a large-scale hydraulic fracturing, a numerical method for evaluating the effect of fracturing in vertical well was established. This study conducts postfracturing effect evaluations to block C Oilfields wells that underwent conventional fracturing and volumetric fracturing, respectively, proposes the definition of fracture network conductivity and its relationship with cumulative production, and analyzes the fracturing construction parameters. The results suggest that the conventional fracturing can only form a single fracture instead of a stimulated reservoir volume (SRV) region. However, the volumetric fracturing transformation can form a complex fracture network system and SRV region and meanwhile bring obvious increase in the production. The effective time lasts for a longer period, and the increase of average daily oil is 2.2 times more than that of conventional fracturing. Additionally, with the progress of the production, the SRV area within the core region of the volume transformation gradually decreased from 6664.84m2 to 4414.45m2; the SRV area of the outer region decreased from 7913.5m2 to 5391.3m2. As the progress develops, the equivalent permeability and the area of the fracture gradually decrease as the fracturing effect gradually weakens, and so does the conductivity of the network decreasing exponentially; a good correlation is observed between the conductivity of the fracture network, the cumulative production, and fracturing construction parameters, which can serve as the evaluation parameters for the fracturing effects and the basis for fracturing productivity prediction and provide a guidance for fracturing optimization design.

Chinese shale oil has high recoverable resources and great development potential. However, due to the limitation of development technology, the recovery rate of shale oil is not high. In this paper, the effects of different injection media on the development of shale oil reservoirs in Dongying formation, Qikou depression, Huanghua depression, and Bohai bay basin, were studied by means of imbibition and nitrogen flooding. Combining nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology with imbibition and gas displacement experiments, the mechanism of shale injected formation water, active water (surfactant), and nitrogen was reproduced. The displacement process of crude oil under different injection media and injection conditions was truly demonstrated, and the relationship between different development methods and the pore boundaries used was clarified. A theoretical basis for the effective development of shale oil was provided. At the same time, Changqing tight oil cores with similar permeability to Dagang shale oil cores were selected for comparison. The results showed that, as the imbibition time of shale samples increased, the imbibition efficiency increased. Pores with T2 < 10 ms contributed the most to imbibition efficiency, with an average contribution greater than 90%. 10 ms < T2 < 100 ms and more than 100 ms pores contributed less to imbibition efficiency. Active water can change the wettability of shale, increase its hydrophilicity, and improve the efficiency of imbibition. The imbibition recovery ratio of injected active water was 17.56% higher than that of injected formation water. Compared with tight sandstone with similar permeability, the imbibition efficiency of shale was lower. As the nitrogen displacement pressure increased, the oil displacement efficiency also increased. The higher the shale permeability was, the greater the displacement efficiency would be. T2 > 100 ms pore throat of shale contributed to the main oil displacement efficiency, with an average oil displacement efficiency contribution of 63.16%. And the relaxation interval 10 < T2 < 100 ms pore throat displacement efficiency contributed to 28.27%. T2 < 10 ms pore throat contributed the least to the oil displacement efficiency, with an average oil displacement efficiency contribution of 8.58%. Compared with tight sandstone with similar permeability, shale had lower oil displacement efficiency. The findings of this study can help for better understanding of the influence of different injection media on shale oil recovery effect.
