Contemporary trends are focused on the development of the so-called smart, connected and multimedia cars as well as actions in the field of driving autonomy, and these trends may lead to changes in the structure of the industry through the emergence and growth of the importance of new entities. The article presents the concept of autonomous vehicles (AVs) and the way it is perceived by users of traditional cars. Surveys were carried out in various age groups on the possibilities of developing AVs in Poland. The group of respondents were inhabitants of a rural area, small towns and cities with over 300,000 inhabitants. Based on our own research, it can be concluded that, due to many different factors, including costs, legal regulations and conviction, among others, AVs will not appear so soon in common use on Polish roads. The results of the research showed that the majority of respondents consider hybrid vehicles (HVs) and then electric vehicles (EVs) to be the dominant type of vehicles in the near future in Poland, at the same time pointing at the long process of adopting AV technology.

Vibrations occurring during road transport can vary in a wide spectrum and they can lead to losses in quality of transported materials. However, the vibrations are definitely different than the loads experienced by pellet samples in the tester used for durability tests according to the standard ISO 17831-1. pThe aim of the study was to evaluate the durability of wood biomass pellets available for sale in large-area stores, in terms of loads occurring in transport. The durability of the ellets was tested by subjecting them to vertical and horizontal vibrations similar to those occurring during local transport of this type of fuel for the needs of households. Durability tests were also carried out in accordance with ISO 17831-1. The results were analyzed statistically. Among other, it was found that the vibration time impact on the tested pellet durability was significantly lower in case of horizontal vibrations than in vertical. Moreover, pellets with a diameter of 8 mm showed lower durability than pellets with a diameter of 6 mm. Durability tests carried out in accordance with ISO 17831-1 showed lower pellet strength results compared to the test methods based on lateral and vertical vibrations.

Autonomous vehicles are gaining more and more followers and are becoming a reality. Although the total change of the transport system to an autonomous one still remains a big challenge, the development of navigation, control and supervision systems for vehicles gives hope for an autonomous future. The article describes the rules for choosing a route and the process of outsourcing transport tasks. The formulas for calculating the values of indicators characterizing the transport process are provided in the simple case when vehicles move along a fixed route where there are no disturbances. Additionally, the theory of Markov random systems was used to determine the system capacity, average queue length for servicing and the average number of requests.

The aim of the paper was to investigate the effect of infrared pre-treatment on the process of water absorption by lentil seeds. The paper presents the effects of micronization on the process of water absorption by lentil seeds. As a source of infrared emission, 400-W ceramic infrared radiators ECS-1 were used. The seeds were soaked at three temperature values (in the range from 25 to 75 °C) for 8 h, that is, until the equilibrium moisture content was achieved. Peleg’s equation was used to describe the kinetics of water absorption by lentil seeds. The results were compared with those obtained in the process of soaking crude seeds. On the basis of the conducted research, it was found that the infrared pre-treatment contributed to a substantial increase in the water absorption rate in the initial period of soaking lentil seeds (especially at 25 °C). Infrared irradiation can be an effective method for intensification of lentil seed hydration at an ambient temperature. It should be assumed that, in accordance with the principles of sustainable development, shortening the heating time will significantly reduce the energy consumption and cost of processing lentil seeds.

The high customer requirements for appropriate product quality pose a challenge for manufacturers and suppliers and also cause them many problems related to ensuring a sufficiently high product quality throughout the entire production cycle. For the above reasons, it is so important to assess the capability of monitored processes, and shaping, analyzing and controlling the capability of processes is an important aspect of managing an organization that uses a process approach to management. The use of an appropriate method to analyze the course of production processes is a necessity imposed by quality standards, e.g., ISO 9001: 2015. That is why it is so important to propose a quick and low-cost method of assessing production processes. For this purpose, a method of assessing the capability of the manufacturing process using bootstrap analysis was used. The article presents the analysis of inherent properties of the production process based on the results of measurements of the characteristic features of the process or the characteristics of the manufactured products (process variables) for the shafts with grooves. The main goals of the work are to develop a procedure for determining process capability based on the bootstrap method, including criteria for the classification of production process capability; to develop the criterion values for confidence intervals of production process capability; as well as to demonstrate the practical application of bootstrap analysis in manufacturing. Moreover, comparative analyses of process capabilities using bootstrap and classic methods were carried out. They confirm both the narrowing of the confidence interval when using the bootstrap method and the possibility of determining a better estimator of the lower limit of this range compared to the results obtained using the classic method. The tests carried out for the unit production of shafts with grooves showed that the analysis of the process capability for measuring tests n = 10 is possible. Finally, new criterion values for the assessment of process capability for the bootstrap method were proposed. The model for assessing the capability of production processes presented in the paper was implemented in low-volume production in the defense industry.

In this paper, changes in the textural properties of butternut squash caused by thermal treatment in a convection steam oven with different levels of temperature, steam, and different process durations were considered. Textural properties of pumpkin pulp were measured in terms of five features (characteristics): hardness, chewiness, gumminess, springiness, and cohesiveness. Pearson’s correlation coefficients for measurements of the characteristics indicated significant linear relationships at a significance level of 0.05. This fact justified the use of multivariate statistical methods to explore the simultaneous impact of temperature, steam, and time on textural attributes of butternut squash. Shapiro–Wilk tests did not disprove the normality of four textural characteristics; namely, hardness, springiness, gumminess and chewiness. Based on the measurements of the four above normally distributed features, three-way multivariate analysis of variance with all double interactions between the factors proved their significant impact on textural properties of butternut squash pulp at a significance level of 0.05. Additionally, applied multivariate techniques such as canonical correlation analysis, principal component analysis, factor analysis, clustering analysis, and discriminant analysis explained relationships between the factors and characteristics under consideration.

A food allergy is a group of symptoms occurring in the organism and resulting from consuming some food, where the problems are conditioned by immunological mechanisms. The symptoms may become apparent first in adulthood and they may be an initial manifestation of a latent allergy. Typical symptoms of a food allergy occur in different organs, thus not only in the digestive system, but also in the skin, respiratory system and circulatory system. To assess the frequency of food allergy onset in rural areas of the Lublin region as well as to determine which factors induce such allergies. A survey was conducted, involving the participation of 340 inhabitants of rural areas. The study monitored the knowledge and situation of the disease, concerning allergens, allergy symptoms, methods of treatment and opinions regarding such treatment. The analysis focused on 124 people with diagnosed allergies. Introducing a diet did not result in a statistically significant difference regarding elimination of the symptoms, as compared to the patients who did not follow any diet. On the other hand, pharmacological treatment causes statistically worse results than using other methods or not being treated at all. The patients in whom allergy symptoms disappeared were more convinced about the positive character of their diet than those in whom the symptoms were not eliminated. The age when the allergy becomes evident does not affect its duration, yet it matters as to the time of its later elimination. The more symptoms were experienced by a patient, the longer the duration of the allergy was.
