Marcello Casertano completed his Ph.D. studies in Pharmaceutical Science at the University of Naples Federico II in 2020. He is Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Naples Federico II, Napoli, Italy since 2021. His main research interest is the study of the chemical diversity of natural products from marine invertebrates. This involves the structure elucidation of marine secondary metabolites by the use of spectroscopic means (NMR, ECD) and spectrometric techniques (HR-LCMS). The chemical diversity of marine-derived small molecules can also exploited by the application of both diversity-oriented and fragment-based approaches, aimed at the synthetic creation of chemical libraries inspired to model the parent bioactive marine products.
