Anti-corrosion properties of Inconel 625 (In) laser cladding coatings onto the (S235JR) steel (S) were investigated. The coatings were produced with the use of wire (WIn/S) or powder (PIn/S). The mechanical properties of the Inconel 625 coatings were characterized by microhardness measurements. The PIn/S shows the highest hardness. The surface and microstructure of the specimens were observed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The surface analysis of the laser cladding coatings by energy-dispersive spectroscope (EDS) indicated that the structure of the WIn, and PIn coatings depend on its production technique. The microstructure of the WIn and PIn coatings have a dendritic columnar character. Corrosion test materials were carried out by using electrochemical methods. The corrosive environment was acidic chloride solution. It turned out that the PIn/S coating, which was produced by laser cladding method with the use of Inconel 625 powder, has the best anti-corrosion properties in an aggressive chloride environment.

The effect of using two different deposition systems on the microstructure and mechanical properties was studied in this paper. For this purpose, laser-engineered net shaping (LENS) and high-power CO2 laser deposition processes were applied to fabricate Inconel 625 samples. The microstructure of the Inconel 625 produced by both additive techniques was characterized using light microscopy (LM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The mechanical properties were characterized by tensile tests and microhardness measurements. High-power laser application resulted in a strong build texture, while, at low powers, the {011} Goss component increased. Both types of deposited materials showed dendritic microstructures with Ti-, Mo-, and Nb-rich zones at the cell boundaries, where numerous precipitates (Nb2C, NbC, titanium carbides, Nb3Ni, and NbNiCr) were also observed. It was also noted that both variants were characterized by the same slope with a proportional length, but the Inconel 625 fabricated via LENS showed a higher average yield strength (YS; 524 MPa vs. 472 MPa) and ultimate tensile strength (UTS; 944 MPa vs. 868 MPa) and lower elongation (35% vs. 42%) than samples obtained with the high-power CO2 laser deposition process.

This article presents the results of steel-sheet lap-joint-welding using laser beam radiation. The use of a laser beam and keyhole effect for deep material penetration in lap joint welding was presented. Thermodynamic mechanism of laser welding is related to material properties and process parameters. Estimation of welding parameters and joint properties’ analysis was performed through numerical simulation. The article presents a possibility of modeling laser lap-joint welding by using Simufact Welding software based on Marc solver and thermo-mechanical solution. Numerical calculation was performed for surface and conical volumetric heat sources simulating laser absorption and keyhole effect during steel sheet welding. Thermo-mechanical results of fusion zone (FZ), heat-affected zone (HAZ) and phase transformations calculated in numerical simulation were analyzed. The welding parameters for partial sealed joint penetration dedicated for gas piping installations were estimated from the numerical analysis. Low-carbon constructional steel was used for numerical and experimental analyses. A trial joint based on the estimated parameters was prepared by using a CO2 laser. Numerical and experimental results in the form of hardness distributions and weld geometry were compared. Metallographic analysis of the obtained weld was presented, including crystallographic structures and inclusions in the cross section of the joint.

This paper presents the results of laser welding of dissimilar joints, where low-carbon and stainless steels were welded inthe lap joint configuration. Performed welding of austenitic and ferritic-pearlitic steels included a sealed joint, where only partial penetration of lower material was obtained. The authors presented acomparative study of the joints under different configurations. The welding parameters for the assumed penetration were estimated via anumericalsimulation. Moreover, a stress–strain analysis was performed based on theestablished model. Numerical analysis showed significant differences in joint properties, therefore, further study was conducted. Investigation of the fusion mechanism in the obtained joints wascarried out using electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and metallurgical analysis. The study of the lap joint under different configurations showed considerable dissimilarities in stress–strain distribution and relevant differences in the fusion zone structure. The results showed advantages of using stainless steel as the upper material of a microstructure, and uniform chemical element distribution and stress analysis is considered.

Numerical simulation of laser welding dissimilar joint was presented. Results of butt joint for low carbon and austenitic steels are studied. Numerical calculations based on thermo-mechanical method and phase transformation were used for estimating weld dimensions and joint properties. Unconventional welding method where focused photons beam are used as a heat source were presented. Problems with welding of dissimilar joints, where different composition and thermo physical material properties affect on this phenomena complexity are solved using numerical methods and laser welding technology. Simulation of low carbon and stainless steel joints using SimufactWelding software are presented. Model of heat source within geometry and parameters was programmed. Laser beam welding simulation was performed for estimating parameters for complete joints penetration. Programming welding boundary condition and heat source geometry welding parameters with output power and welding speed rate was estimated. Materials used in simulation process and experimental welding was low carbon construction S235JR and stainless 316L steels in sheets form. Joint properties such as fusion zone and heat affected zones dimensions and stress-strain distribution were calculated. Estimation of complete joint characteristics was obtained using thermo-mechanical simulation method and Marc solver engine.. Experimental trial butt joint welding were performed based on estimated parameters. Welding process was performed using 6kW CO2 laser system. Based on numerical simulation, microstructure analysis, hardness distribution and chemical distribution of fusion zone, properties of obtained joint was studied. Model for simulation of dissimilar laser welding joint was obtained, and properties of obtained joint based on simulation and experiment was studied.
