Most Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) methods assume that environments are static. Such a strong assumption limits the application of most visual SLAM systems. The dynamic objects will cause many wrong data associations during the SLAM process. To address this problem, a novel visual SLAM method that follows the pipeline of feature-based methods called DM-SLAM is proposed in this paper. DM-SLAM combines an instance segmentation network with optical flow information to improve the location accuracy in dynamic environments, which supports monocular, stereo, and RGB-D sensors. It consists of four modules: semantic segmentation, ego-motion estimation, dynamic point detection and a feature-based SLAM framework. The semantic segmentation module obtains pixel-wise segmentation results of potentially dynamic objects, and the ego-motion estimation module calculates the initial pose. In the third module, two different strategies are presented to detect dynamic feature points for RGB-D/stereo and monocular cases. In the first case, the feature points with depth information are reprojected to the current frame. The reprojection offset vectors are used to distinguish the dynamic points. In the other case, we utilize the epipolar constraint to accomplish this task. Furthermore, the static feature points left are fed into the fourth module. The experimental results on the public TUM and KITTI datasets demonstrate that DM-SLAM outperforms the standard visual SLAM baselines in terms of accuracy in highly dynamic environments.

Conventional machine learning (ML) and deep learning approaches require sharing customers’ sensitive information with an external credit bureau to generate a prediction model, thereby increasing the risk of privacy leakage. This poses a significant challenge for financial companies. To address this challenge, federated learning has emerged as a promising approach to protect data privacy. However, the high communication costs associated with federated systems, particularly for large neural networks, can be a bottleneck. To mitigate this issue, it is necessary to limit the number and size of communications for practical training of large neural structures. Gradient sparsification is a technique that has gained increasing attention as a method to reduce communication costs, as it updates only significant gradients and accumulates insignificant gradients locally. However, the secure aggregation framework cannot directly employ gradient sparsification. To overcome this limitation, this article proposes two sparsification methods for reducing the communication costs of federated learning. The first method is a time-varying hierarchical sparsification method for model parameter updates, which addresses the challenge of maintaining model accuracy after a high sparsity ratio. This method can significantly reduce the cost of a single communication. The second method is to apply sparsification to the secure aggregation framework. Specifically, the encryption mask matrix is sparsified to reduce communication costs while protecting privacy. Experiments demonstrate that our method can reduce the upload communication costs to approximately 2.9% to 18.9% of the conventional federated learning algorithm under different non-IID experiment settings when the sparsity rate is 0.01.

Change detection (CD) aims to identify pixels with semantic changes between images. However, annotating massive numbers of pixel-level images is labor-intensive and costly, especially for multitemporal images, which require pixel-wise comparisons by human experts. Considering the excellent performance of visual-language models (VLMs) for zero-shot, OV, etc., with prompt-based reasoning, it is promising to utilize VLMs to make better CD under limited labeled data. In this article, we propose a VLM guidance-based semi-supervised CD method, namely SemiCD-VL. The insight of SemiCD-VL is to synthesize free change labels using VLMs to provide additional supervision signals for unlabeled data. However, almost all current VLMs are designed for single-temporal images and cannot be directly applied to bi- or multitemporal images. Motivated by this, we first propose a VLM-based mixed change event generation (CEG) strategy to yield pseudo-labels for unlabeled CD data. Since the additional supervised signals provided by these VLM-driven pseudo-labels may conflict with the original pseudo-labels from the consistency regularization paradigm (e.g., FixMatch), we propose the dual projection head for de-entangling different signal sources. Further, we explicitly decouple the bitemporal images semantic representation through two auxiliary segmentation decoders, which are also guided by VLM. Finally, to make the model more adequately capture change representations, we introduce contrastive consistency regularization (CCR) by constructing feature-level contrastive loss in auxiliary branches. Extensive experiments show the advantage of SemiCD-VL. For instance, SemiCD-VL improves the FixMatch baseline by $+ 5.3~\text {IoU}^{c}$ on WHU-CD and by $+ 2.4~\text {IoU}^{c}$ on LEVIR-CD with 5% labels, and SemiCD-VL requires only 5%–10% of the labels to achieve performance similar to the supervised methods. In addition, our CEG strategy, in an unsupervised manner, can achieve performance far superior to state-of-the-art (SOTA) unsupervised CD methods (e.g., IoU improved from 18.8% to 46.3% on LEVIR-CD dataset). The code is available at https://github.com/likyoo/SemiCD-VL .

Data security and user privacy-issue have become an important field. As federated learning (FL) could solve the problems from data security and privacy-issue, it starts to be applied in many different applied machine learning tasks. However, FL does not verify the quality of the data from different parties in the system. Hence, the low-quality datasets with fewer common entities can be co-trained with others. This could result in a huge amount of computing-resources waste, and the attack on the FL model from malicious clients as federal members. To solve this problem, this article proposes SMSS (a Secure Member Selection Strategy) which can evaluate the data qualities of members before training. With SMSS, only datasets share more common entities than a certain threshold can be selected for learning, while malicious clients with fewer common objects cannot acquire any information about the model. This paper implements SMSS, and evaluate its performance via several extensive experiments. Experimental results demonstrate that SMSS is safe, efficient and effective.
