With the development of earth observation technology, hyperspectral image (HSI) and light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data collaborative monitoring has shown great potential in the ecological protection and restoration of coastal wetlands. However, due to the different working principle adopted by the HSI sensor and LiDAR sensor, the data obtained by them has different distribution characteristics. The distribution difference limits the fusion of HSI and LiDAR data, bringing a great challenge for coastal wetland classification. To tackle this problem, a multi-source feature embedding and interaction fusion network is proposed for coastal wetland classification, named MsFE-IFN. First, the HSI and LiDAR data are embedded in the same feature space, where the feature distribution of multi-source remote sensing are aligned to alleviate data distribution differences. Second, the aligned HSI and LiDAR features interact information in channels and pixels, which is able to establish the relationship of spectral, elevation and geospatial. Third, the HSI and LiDAR feature are sent into the feature fusion network, in which the low-frequency residual is retained to enrich intra-class features. Finally, the fused feature is applied for final class prediction. Experiments conducted on three coastal wetland HSI-LiDAR datasets created by ourselves demonstrate the superiority of the proposed MsFE-IFN for coastal wetland classification. The codes will be available from the website:https://github.com/bigshot-g/IEEE_TGRS_MsFE-IFN.

Reasonable fusion of multimodal data can increase the accuracy of remote sensing classification. In this article, an effective morphological convolution and attention calibration network is proposed for the joint classification of hyperspectral image (HSI) and light detection and ranging (LiDAR). Firstly, we devise a morphological convolution block, which combines the dilation and erosion operations in morphology with convolution to better capture the feature from HSI and LiDAR. Next, we designed a dual attention module that uses self attention to calibrate features and cross attention to combine multisource complementary information, respectively. Finally, considering the features of semantic inconsistency and different scales, the adaptive feature fusion module is introduced to dynamically fuse multimodal features. To verify the progressiveness of proposed network, we experiment on three common datasets and one self-made dataset. The result shows that our network performs better than the state-of-the-art models.

Graph convolutional neural networks (GCNs) have been widely used in hyperspectral images (HSIs) classification for their superiority in processing non-Euclidean structure data. The performance of GCNs relies on the initial graph structure. Most GCN models only utilize spectral information to construct a graph, which is inaccurate because they fail to take the relationship between adjacent nodes into consideration. In addition, due to the over-smooth phenomenon, most GCN models are shallow and unable to extract effective features. To address these issues, a dual graph u-nets is proposed by integrating spatial graph and spectral graph for HSIs classification, denoted by DGU-HSI. To integration the spectral and spatial information, two graphs are constructed for feature extraction. The spectral graph is created by spectral similarity among all pixels where multirange spectral information is retained, and the spatial graph is constructed by exploiting the neighborhood relationship of the center pixel, which describes spatial information. Then, a dual GCN is utilized to extract spatial and spectral graph features simultaneously. To relieve the over-smooth phenomenon, the graph u-nets structure is applied on constructed spectral and spatial graph to extract effective features. Finally, the extracted spectral and spatial features are fused for classification. Experiments conducted on the public datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method on HSIs classification.

Wetland is one of the three ecosystems in the world, and collaborative monitoring using hyperspectral images (HSIs) and light detection and ranging (LiDAR) has been important for wetland ecological protection. However, because of the domain shift of different images, cross-scene wetland classification of HSI and LiDAR is a practical challenge, necessitating the development of models trained solely on the source domain (SD), and directly transferred to the target domain (TD) without retraining. To address this issue, an instance-wise domain generalization network (IDGnet) is proposed for HSI and LiDAR cross-scene wetland classification. An instance-wise random domain expansion module is developed to simulate the domain shift, establishing the extended domain (ED). Specifically, the original HSI and LiDAR data are separated as semantic and background information in the frequency domain, a random background shift is applied to the HSI, and a semantic random shift is deployed to LiDAR. The HSI and LiDAR fusion features are extracted from the SD and ED by a weight-shared network. Multiple condition constraints are proposed for domain and class alignment, learning the domain-invariant and class-specific information, and improving model generalization. Experiments conducted on two wetlands datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed IDGnet for cross-scene wetland classification with HSI and LiDAR data. The codes will be available from the website: https://github.com/bigshot-g/IEEE_TGRS_IDGnet.

Land desertification is a major challenge to global sustainable development. Therefore, the timely and accurate monitoring of the land desertification status can provide scientific decision support for desertification control. The existing automatic interpretation methods are affected by factors such as “same spectrum different matter”, “different spectrum same object”, staggered distribution of desertification areas, and wide ranges of ground objects. We propose an automatic interpretation method for the remote sensing of land desertification that incorporates multi-scale local binary pattern (MSLBP) and spectral features based on the above issues. First, a multi-scale convolutional LBP feature extraction network is designed to obtain the spatial texture features of remote sensing images and fuse them with spectral features to enhance the feature representation capability of the model. Then, considering the continuity of the distribution of the same kind of ground objects in local space, we designed an adaptive median filtering method to process the probability map of the extreme learning machine (ELM) classifier output to improve the classification accuracy. Four typical datasets were developed using GF-1 multispectral imagery with the Horqin Left Wing Rear Banner as the study area. Experimental results on four datasets show that the proposed method solves the problem of ill classification and omission in classifying the remote sensing images of desertification, effectively suppresses the effects of “homospectrum” and “heterospectrum”, and significantly improves the accuracy of the remote sensing interpretation of land desertification.
