Tea polyphenols are considered as an important indicator of tea quality. Rapid detection of tea polyphenol content plays a valuable role for tea breeding and quality inspection during tea production. In this work, a portable rapid non-destructive detection device of tea polyphenols in fresh tea leaves was developed, which integrated the fusion technology of visible/short-wave (400–1050 nm) and long-wave (1000–1650 nm) near-infrared spectroscopy (Vis/NIR). Experimental results indicated that the spectra within the overlapping region (1000–1050 nm) were assembled by applying the spectral data fusing method. Followed by spectral data preprocessing with the Savitzky–Golay smoothing (SG) method, least squares support vector regression (LS–SVR) models were established for detecting the tea polyphenol content of fresh tea leaves. Based on the fused Vis/NIR spectra (dual-band), the correlation coefficient of calibration (RC), root mean square error of calibration (RMSEC), correlation coefficient of prediction (RP), root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP), and residual predictive deviation (RPD) reached 0.976, 0.679%, 0.893, 0.897%, and 2.230, respectively, which were better than the visible/short-wave or long-wave near infrared spectral data (single-band). The sensitive spectral wavebands of tea polyphenols extracted using the random frog (RF) algorithm were distributed in 402–448 nm, 555–600 nm, 810–1042 nm, 1056–1103 nm, 1219–1323 nm, 1406–1416 nm, and 1499–1511 nm. This demonstrated that the prediction of tea polyphenol content using fused spectral data combined with the LS–SVR model depended on various functional groups such as auxochromes, chromogenic groups, and hydrogen-containing groups. The proposed device is capable of non-destructive detection of tea polyphenol content in fresh tea leaves, which can provide effective technical support for tea breeding and tea leaf quality control.

In order to realize the accurate and reliable prediction of the change trend of dissolved oxygen (DO) content in California perch aquaculture water, this paper proposes a second-order hybrid optimization support vector machine (SVR) model based on Differential Evolution (DE) and Gray Wolf Optimizer (GWO), shortened to DE-GWO-SVR, to predict the DO content with the characteristics of nonlinear and non-smooth water quality data. Experimentally, data for the water quality, including pH, water temperature, conductivity, salinity, total dissolved solids, and DO, were collected. Pearson’s correlation coefficient (PPMCC) was applied to explore the correlation between each water quality parameter and DO content. The optimal DE-GWO-SVR model was established and compared with models based on SVR, back-propagation neural network (BPNN), and their optimization models. The results show that the DE-GWO-SVR model proposed in this paper can effectively realize the nonlinear prediction and global optimization performance. Its R2, MSE, MAE and RMSE can be up to 0.94, 0.108, 0.2629, and 0.3293, respectively, which is better than those of other models. This research provides guidance for the efficient prediction of DO in perch aquaculture water bodies for increasing the aquaculture effectiveness and reducing the aquaculture risk, providing a new exploratory path for water quality monitoring.

Spectral imaging is a promising technique for detecting the quality of rice seeds. However, the high cost of the system has limited it to more practical applications. The study was aimed to develop a low-cost narrow band multispectral imaging system for detecting rice false smut (RFS) in rice seeds. Two different cultivars of rice seeds were artificially inoculated with RFS. Results have demonstrated that spectral features at 460, 520, 660, 740, 850, and 940 nm were well linked to the RFS. It achieved an overall accuracy of 98.7% with a false negative rate of 3.2% for Zheliang, and 91.4% with 6.7% for Xiushui, respectively, using the least squares-support vector machine. Moreover, the robustness of the model was validated through transferring the model of Zheliang to Xiushui with the overall accuracy of 90.3% and false negative rate of 7.8%. These results demonstrate the feasibility of the developed system for RFS identification with a low detecting cost.

Low-temperature stress is one of the factors affecting the growth and development of peanuts. Currently, biochemical detection technologies for crop freeze damage are well established. In the context of rapid development in optical sensing technology and smart agriculture, non-destructive crop freeze damage detection based on such technologies has gained increasing attention. The accurate detection, early warning, and targeted control of crop cold damage are particularly important. In this study, 70 peanut germplasm resources were collected and used for the research objectives. Indoor low-temperature seedling identification was conducted at 25 °C (the control group) and 5 °C (low-temperature stress group) for 7 days. Photosynthetic fluorescence values in leaves, as well as 13 indicators (Fo, Fm, Fv, Fv/Fm, Fv’/Fm’, ΦPSII, NPQ, qP, Rfd, Pn, Gs, Ci, and Tr), were analyzed for their responses to low-temperature stress. The results showed that under low-temperature stress, the Pn and Ci of peanut seedlings exhibited an ascending trend, while Tr and other indicators showed a decreasing trend compared to the control group. Based on the relative coefficients of resistance to low temperature for each individual indicator, a comprehensive non-destructive evaluation of cold resistance was conducted using methods such as principal component analysis, cluster analysis, and stepwise regression. Through principal component analysis, the 13 individual physiological indicators were transformed into 3 comprehensive indicators. The 70 peanut varieties were divided into 4 categories based on their resistance to low temperature: sensitive materials, moderately sensitive materials, moderately cold-tolerant materials, and cold-tolerant materials. Additionally, a mathematical model for evaluating cold resistance in peanuts was established.
