Wind energy is an environmentally friendly, profitable, and renewable energy resource. Wind energy eployment is increasing in the last two decades. In this paper, Bandırma bay which has a potential for offshore wind deployment is studied to determine the most suitable area in it and eventually potential offshore power capacity of the location is estimated. This study combines applications of Geographical Information System and Multi-Criteria- Decision-Making Methodology to obtain fast results supported with visual documentation. In this scope, eight standard criteria such as wind speed, water depth, bird migration lines are applied and nvestigated in detail by using Geographical Information System. It is found that there is sufficient wind speed t the shallow level of the sea. Consequently, two locations are found to be suitable; one is on the northwest and the other one is on the north east of Bandırma, with capacities of 72 MW and 48 MW, respectively.

Geothermal energy is gaining more reputation and importance around the world. Correspondingly, suitable location selection is a critical step and has become necessary for the successful installation and operation of geothermal power plants. This study investigated suitability of İzmir region, located in the Aegean part of Türkiye, in terms of geothermal power plants applications by using the combination of Geographical Information System and Analytic Hierarchy Process. Based on the request of power plants, thirteen important criteria were evaluated under three main categories named as physical (C1), environmental (C2) and technical (C3). Moreover, expert’s opinions were taken into consideration to calculate the importance of these criteria. Key results showed that İzmir was suitable for geothermal power plants. The final suitability map layer pointed out that %8.73 (1.037 km2) of total area were determined as highly suitable regions in terms of installation. In addition, the obtained suitability map layer was compared with actual geothermal power plants. Based on the comparison study, power plants in Seferihisar were moderately suitable for geothermal power plants while the location of Balçova power plant was highly suitable. Regarding the suitability assessment in the present study, the location of Dikili power plants had the least suitability score.

The present paper investigates the conceptual design of a floating offshore renewable energy system—an energy island— developed to provide a sustainable long‐term solution to support and expedite the transition toward renewable energy sources (RESs) as a case study in Crete Island, Greece. The optimal site selection in Crete’s coastal waters was detected by carefully evaluating the potential for wind, solar, and wave energy alongside environmental and social considerations. Later, the current electricity demand was analyzed, leading to the identification of suitable technologies for renewable energy harvesting and the conceptualization of a floating structure. The findings of this research emphasize the viability of integrating diverse energy sources as a pivotal step for Crete Island to advance toward energy independence and environmental sustainability. Crete’s abundant wind and solar resources underscore its capacity to host innovative projects, warranting further exploration into energy surplus storage and export.
