The present study uses a bibliometric and systematic literature review (SLR) to examine the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Digital Twins (DT) in the construction industry. The network visualization and other approaches based on the Web of Science (WOS) database and the patterns of research interactions were explored in 1879 academic publications using co-occurrence and co-citation investigations. Significant publications, conferences, influential authors, countries, organizations, and funding agencies have been recognized. Our study demonstrates that BIM, IoT, and DT in construction, Heritage BIM (HBIM), Smart Contracts, BIM, and Ontology, and VR and AR in BIM and DT are the main study themes. Finally, several prospective areas for future study are identified, including BIM and Metaverse technology, BIM and Artificial Intelligence (AI), Metaheuristic algorithms for optimization purposes in BIM, and the Circular Economy with BIM and IoT.

In recent years, dam construction has become more complex, requiring an effective project management method. Building Information Modeling (BIM) affects how construction projects are planned, designed, executed, and operated. Therefore, reducing execution time, cost, and risk and increasing quality are the primary goals of organizations. In this paper, first, the time and cost of the project were obtained via the BIM process. Subsequently, optimization between the components of the survival pyramid (time, cost, quality, and risk) in construction projects was completed in a case study of the Ghocham storage dam in five different modes, including contractor’s offers, BIM, actual, and two other modes based on the expert’s opinions. For this aim, five different meta-heuristic optimization algorithms were utilized, including two classical algorithms (Genetic and Simulated Annealing) and three novel algorithms (Black Widow Optimization, Battle Royale Optimization, and Black Hole Mechanics Optimization). In four cases, once each element of the survival pyramid was optimized separately, all four cases were traded off simultaneously. Moreover, the results were obtained from all the mentioned algorithms in five scenarios based on the number of function evaluation (Nfe), Standard Deviation (SD), Computation Time (CT), and Best Cost (BC). MATLAB software completed the coding related to the objective functions and optimization algorithms. The results indicated the appropriate performance of GA and BHMO algorithms in some scenarios. However, only the GAs should be considered effective algorithms in a dam construction projects’ time–cost–quality–risk (TCQR) tradeoff.

In the analysis of rectangular reinforced liquid storage tanks, a method assuming linear-elastic behavior for material can be used, i.e., the strip method, the moment coefficient method, the finite element method, etc. In the analysis of these types of tanks, tank walls can be considered as slabs. In this study, tank walls were analyzed as slabs subjected to hydrostatic loading; in the analysis, the yield line theory is used because it is more suitable for the linear inelastic behavior of reinforced concrete slabs than the ones based on the linear elastic theory. An iterative algorithm based on yield line theory is presented for the design of isotropically reinforced recrangular concrete slabs supported along all four edges. A computer program is coded which predicts the location of yield lines for the slabs depending upon certain parameters. As a result of this prediction, the manual design of such slabs can be significantly simplified by the use of the coefficient obtained by using the program. It was shown that the analytical computation of the ultimate moment per unit length requires the solution of a highly nonlinear system of equations. This difficulty was overcome by utilizing an iterative technique within the computer program. It also gives the value of the ultimate moment per unit length of the yield line.
