Background and Objectives: Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial condition that affects quality of life (QoL). Symptoms like discomfort, blurred vision, and light sensitivity can negatively impact work efficiency, productivity, and psychological well-being. This study aimed to examine the relationship between DED and QoL, identify risk factors, and estimate DED prevalence in Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study included 1062 participants from Saudi Arabia, recruited via convenience sampling. Data were collected using an online questionnaire with three sections: sociodemographic information, the ocular surface disease index (OSDI) to assess DED severity, and the Arabic WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire to evaluate QoL. Results: Among participants, 77% suffered from DED. Males (β = −9.18, p < 0.001), postgraduate degree holders (β = −13.86, p = 0.001), and individuals with income >15,000 SR (β = −5.10, p = 0.023) had lower OSDI scores compared to reference groups (females, those with high school education or lower, and those with income <5000 SR, respectively), indicating a lower DED risk. Employed individuals, students (employed: β = 10.78, p < 0.020; students: β = 10.60, p < 0.016), divorced/widowed individuals (β = 18.70, p < 0.003), and those with diabetes, hypertension, and thyroid disorders showed higher OSDI scores. Higher OSDI scores correlated with lower QoL scores across all domains (physical: β = −0.26, p < 0.001; psychological: β = −0.22, p < 0.001; social: β = −0.25, p < 0.001; environmental: β = −0.20, p < 0.001). Conclusions: DED significantly affects all QoL domains. Risk factors include occupation, diabetes, hypertension, and thyroid disorders. Awareness and prevention efforts should be prioritized by institutions, while physicians should screen for DED in patients with chronic conditions. Further research is needed on the long-term effects of these risk factors and to improve management strategies.

Purpose: Oral isotretinoin is a derivative of vitamin A, used to treat acne vulgaris. One of its effects is altering the corneal surface and ocular glands, resulting in eye dryness and various other symptoms. This study aimed to analyze the impact of systemic isotretinoin treatment on ocular health and investigate the potential risk factors contributing to ocular pathology. Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 489 participants in the Jazan region using a convenience sampling method. An online questionnaire composed of five sections, including the Arabic version of the validated Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI), was used to assess the presence of ocular symptoms associated with isotretinoin usage as well as the potential contributing risk factors. Results: A significant association was established between oral isotretinoin use and specific eye symptoms, including a gritty feeling in the eye (66.4%), sore eyes (68.6%), blurry vision (75.9%), and the need for moisturizing drops (35%). OSDI severity varied according to isotretinoin usage status, with severe OSDI grades reported in 56.9% of current users, 51.2% of those who stopped < 2 months ago, and 38.8% of those who stopped ≥ 2 months ago. Furthermore, significant risk factors associated with worse OSDI grades included contact lens use and isotretinoin dose, with contact lens use being associated with a 17.5-point increase in OSDI scores, while each 10 mg increase in isotretinoin dose was linked to a 0.20-point rise in OSDI score. Conclusion: This study emphasizes the importance of assessing individual risk factors before starting isotretinoin therapy and monitoring ocular health in patients undergoing therapy. Clinicians should be aware of preventive methods and should consider high-risk patients to an ophthalmologist for interventions, such as punctal plugs, that can reduce complications. Further research targeting specific populations with shared risk factors is needed to validate these findings.

Background and Objectives: Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) has become a major health problem among university students as a result of extensive electronic device use, but there is limited in-depth risk factor analysis by academic disciplines. The purpose of this study was to determine CVS prevalence, identify risk-associated factors, and investigate discipline-specific differences among university students. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at Jazan University among 427 students of six academic disciplines between 2023 and 2024. Questionnaires validated by collecting demographics, electronic device usage patterns, eye care practices, and CVS symptoms were used to assess the data. Statistical analyses involved chi-square tests and multivariable logistic regression with significance at p < 0.05. Results: Prevalence of CVS was at epidemic proportions at 89.7% (95% CI: 86.8–92.6%), which was much higher than global averages. Considerable inter-disciplinary heterogeneity occurred, from 95.3% in Computer Science to 75.4% in Arts and Humanities students. A strong dose–response gradient was found for duration of device use: 3–4 h (OR = 4.13, 95% CI: 1.13–5.57), 5–6 h (OR = 5.31, 95% CI: 1.46–9.86), and ≥7 h per day (OR = 6.25, 95% CI: 1.74–8.01) versus 1–2 h use. Students >24 years old demonstrated a very high risk (OR = 9.73, 95% CI: 1.53–19.65). Headaches were the most common symptom (68.0%), and adoption of protective measures was low. Conclusions: This work demonstrates epidemic-level prevalence of CVS with unequivocal dose–response relationships and discipline-specific risk patterns, offering evidence-based targets for immediate campus-wide interventions and identifying a vital post-pandemic public health challenge meriting immediate attention.

Background/Objectives: Lumbar puncture (LP) is an essential diagnostic and therapeutic procedure in neurological practice. Despite its clinical value, misconceptions and fear may influence its acceptance among the public. This study aimed to assess knowledge, attitudes, and misconceptions regarding LP among adults in Saudi Arabia and to examine associated sociodemographic factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between June 2025 and January 2026 using a structured, self-administered online questionnaire adapted from a previously validated instrument. Adults aged ≥18 years residing in Saudi Arabia were recruited via convenience sampling through open social media channels, so the sample is self-selected rather than population-representative. Knowledge and attitude scores were categorized into defined levels, and multivariable regression analyses were performed to identify independent predictors. Results: A total of 1267 participants were included. Knowledge of LP was limited (mean 6.1 ± 3.9 of 18), with 905 (71%) scoring poor and only 362 (29%) demonstrating good knowledge; misconceptions about complications such as urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction were common. Attitudes appeared favorable, with 1182 (93%) reaching the pre-specified 50% threshold, but this cut-off is lenient because an entirely neutral respondent scores 60% on a summed five-point scale, and only 692 (55%) agreed they would sign consent if their physician recommended LP. Knowledge and attitude were weakly but significantly related (r = 0.21, 95% CI 0.16 to 0.26; adjusted β = 0.25 per additional correct item, p < 0.001). Higher education, student status, healthcare occupation, and higher income predicted better knowledge, and male sex predicted lower knowledge (all p < 0.05), whereas sociodemographic factors were weakly associated with attitude. Conclusions: Among self-selected online respondents in Saudi Arabia, knowledge of lumbar puncture was limited while attitudes were comparatively favorable, and the two were weakly but positively related. Targeted educational interventions are warranted to address misconceptions, enhance public awareness, and support informed decision-making within the healthcare system.

Autologous fat grafting is commonly used in breast reconstruction due to its biocompatibility and ability to restore natural contours. However, unpredictable fat resorption often requires multiple procedures. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been introduced as a biological enhancer to improve graft retention, but the evidence regarding its efficacy remains inconsistent. To systematically evaluate and compare the clinical and esthetic outcomes of PRP-enhanced autologous fat grafting versus fat grafting alone in breast reconstruction procedures. This meta-analysis included four clinical studies published between 2011 and 2024, encompassing a total of 242 female patients (108 in the PRP group and 134 in the fat-only group). Data were extracted on tumor grade, prior radiation therapy, number of grafting sessions, fat necrosis, and satisfaction levels. PRP-enhanced fat grafting demonstrated significantly better fat retention, with 66.1% of patients requiring only one grafting session compared to 44% in the control group (p=0.016). Surgeon and patient satisfaction scores were notably higher in the PRP group (p<0.05). However, the incidence of fat necrosis was elevated in the PRP group (39.25%) compared to the control group (24.7%, p=0.006), particularly in irradiated tissues. Subgroup analysis showed optimal outcomes in non-irradiated, centrally located graft sites and patients with Grade II tumors. PRP-enhanced autologous fat grafting significantly improves fat retention and overall satisfaction in breast reconstruction, especially in non-irradiated tissues. Nonetheless, the increased risk of fat necrosis warrants cautious application and further refinement in PRP preparation techniques and patient selection.

Background/Objectives: Red eye is a common ocular complaint, yet population data from Saudi Arabia are limited and largely confined to specific diagnostic entities. This study assessed the proportion of adults reporting red eye and described its clinical characteristics, perceived triggers, management practices, and associated factors. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted between November 2025 and March 2026 among adults aged 18 years or older in Saudi Arabia, recruited by convenience sampling through social media. A structured self-administered questionnaire captured sociodemographic, systemic, ocular, and lifestyle characteristics and, among affected participants, symptom profile, triggers, and management. The outcome was ascertained with a single screening item, accompanied by a photograph to aid recognition, asking whether participants currently had, or had previously had, red eye. Multivariable logistic regression identified independently associated factors (p < 0.05). Results: Of 1670 responses, 1627 were analysed after exclusion of duplicates and implausible anthropometric entries. Current or previous red eye was reported by 474 participants (29.1%; 95% CI: 26.9–31.4). Most reported no or only slight effect on daily life (85.4%), and 76.8% of episodes resolved within 48 h. Independently associated factors were male sex (aOR = 1.76; 95% CI: 1.23–2.52; p = 0.002), cosmetic use around the eyes (aOR = 1.74; 95% CI: 1.20–2.53; p = 0.003), allergic rhinitis or sinusitis (aOR = 1.86; 95% CI: 1.38–2.52; p < 0.001), hypertension (aOR = 1.74; 95% CI: 1.04–2.91; p = 0.035), chronic anxiety disorder (aOR = 1.67; 95% CI: 1.09–2.55; p = 0.018), and higher education. Physical activity showed a graded inverse association (aOR = 0.57; 95% CI: 0.41–0.81 for the highest category). Only 27.6% consulted a physician, and 13.3% used whitening eye drops. Conclusions: Red eye was commonly recognised but usually infrequent, brief, and minimally disabling. As the outcome was a single unvalidated self-report item not bounded in time, these findings describe reported symptom burden rather than confirmed disease.
