This study examines the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in tourism planning and sustainable destination management, using Gelnica, Slovakia, as a case study. The research highlights a key challenge—the absence of systematic visitor data collection—which hinders tourism market analysis, demand assessment, and strategic decision-making. The study integrates alternative data sources, including the Google Places API, to address this gap to analyse Points of Interest (POIs) based on user-generated reviews, ratings, and spatial attributes. The methodological framework combines data acquisition, spatial analysis, and GIS-based visualisation, employing thematic and heat maps to assess tourism resources and visitor behaviour. The findings reveal critical spatial patterns and tourism dynamics, identifying high-demand zones and underutilised locations. Results underscore the potential of GIS to optimise tourism infrastructure, enhance visitor management, and inform evidence-based decision-making. This study advocates for systematically integrating GIS technologies with visitor monitoring and digital tools to improve destination competitiveness and sustainability. The proposed GIS-driven approach offers a scalable and transferable model for data-informed tourism planning in similar historic and environmentally sensitive regions.

Historical maps represent a unique and irreplaceable source of information about the history of a country, be it large (historical) regions, individual geomorphological units or specifically defined sites. Using a methodologically correct, critical historical analysis, old maps provide both the horizontal and vertical analysis of a landscape and its transformation in different time periods. These maps represent some of the oldest, but relatively easily accessible, historical pictorial documents (plausibly) depicting historical landscapes. This study provides the methodology for processing and georeferencing old mine maps with the possibility of their further use for the purposes of mining tourism. The 1696 Marsigli mine map has been chosen for the case study in question. It depicts a cross-section of the copper mines in Smolník and shows in detail the process of cementation water mining. Through an analysis and a detailed study, two-dimensional parts of a georeferenced historical map have been plotted in Google Earth’s three-dimensional space.

In the current digital environment, digital marketing plays a crucial role in shaping and influencing consumer preferences and decision-making processes. With the increasing digitalization of society and the abundance of online information, digital marketing has become an inseparable part of promotional strategies in the field of tourism. This study aims to explore several forms of promotion, with an emphasis on digital marketing, and analyze their impact on Slovak consumers in the tourism sector. The findings reveal that while traditional media, such as television, remain significant in promotional strategies, digital marketing is increasingly influencing consumer behavior, particularly among younger, digitally active demographics. The study highlights the importance of credibility in digital marketing content and the growing consumer interest in innovative approaches, such as virtual and augmented reality, for enhancing engagement. These insights provide actionable guidance for the development of integrated marketing strategies that combine traditional and digital methods to address the evolving needs and expectations of diverse consumer groups in the tourism industry.

This study examines sustainability in tourism, with a particular focus on enhancing destination management through comprehensive visitor monitoring. Precise data on visitor volumes constitute an essential prerequisite for the sustainable planning and management of tourism-related services and infrastructure. This research investigates the correlation between destination attendance and the utilization of visitor centers, employing regression analysis and the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test to quantify these relationships. The study specifically addresses the distribution of domestic and international visitors in the city of Prague and their engagement with municipal information centers, enabling the identification of key visitor behavior patterns. The results offer a robust foundation for forecasting future trends in international visitor flows, which is critical for strategic planning and the sustainable development of tourism destinations.

This article focuses the assessment of the recreational potential of selected water-filled quarries in Slovakia, specifically the Škrabské, Beňatina, and Kraľovany quarries. Water-filled quarries represent a significant untapped resource that can contribute to the development of various leisure activities while simultaneously supporting local communities and environmental conservation. The main challenge of the study is finding a balance between the recreational use of these sites and the need to maintain ecological sustainability, which requires a detailed evaluation of the natural conditions, infrastructure, and accessibility of the individual quarries. The study focuses on a comprehensive assessment of the recreational potential of selected water-filled quarries in Slovakia, specifically the Škrabské, Beňatina, and Kraľovany quarries, using a methodology based on point evaluation according to criteria such as natural beauty, accessibility, existing infrastructure, and ecological status. The results of this study provide an important foundation for further research and decision-making processes in the transformation of water-filled quarries, aiming to maximize their recreational potential while ensuring long-term environmental sustainability.

Cities and regions worldwide, not only in Slovakia but also across the globe, have implemented various procedures to diminish the spread of the coronavirus, resulting in a profound impact on consumers’ shopping behaviour. With the ongoing pandemic reshaping societal norms, it is unsurprising that consumer behaviour patterns are undergoing a significant shift towards digital platforms to accommodate evolving needs and realities. Consumers have switched from conventional shopping to online shopping because, owing to the increasing risk of coronavirus, customers want to avoid public places, thus increasing their preference for online shopping. Against this backdrop, this paper focuses on the factors influencing consumers’ intentions to engage in online shopping, or e-commerce, amidst the COVID-19 crisis. Specifically, it seeks to explore the role of subjective standards and perceived usefulness in shaping consumer behavior in the online shopping domain. Drawing upon a sample of 250 Slovakian consumers and employing correlation analysis, the study reveals a positive association between internal and external subjective standards and consumers’ propensity to shop online. Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient was applied to verify the statistically significant relationshipsbetween the analysed factors in the hypotheses. Furthermore, the results underscore the pivotal role of the apparent helpfulness of e-commerce services in driving consumers towards online purchases, particularly during the ongoing pandemic. These insights hold considerable significance for e-commerce enterprises, offering valuable guidance in understanding and adapting to prevailing consumer behaviors. By leveraging these findings, businesses can refine their sales and marketing strategies to better align with current consumer preferences, thereby fostering greater effectiveness and competitiveness in the digital marketplace. The transition to digital commerce is, especially at the time of government measures to restrict movement and impose social distancing rules, essential for all businesses, as customers switch from brick-and-mortar stores to online shopping platforms owing to social pressure or because they find it useful. In conclusion, we discuss the research findings, identify the limitations of the study, and propose further research trajectories.
