Information

Cristóbal obtained his PhD in chemistry from the University of Córdoba (Spain) in 2011 after graduating as a chemist from the University of Córdoba in 2007. In 2010, he completed a 4 month's stay at the School of Chemistry, University of Cardiff (UK), where he started to face crystallographic problems and became fascinated by X-ray methods. He also has three master's degrees in fine chemistry (University of Córdoba, 2008), crystallography and crystallization (Menéndez Pelayo International University, 2013), and expert in health and safety with a speciality in occupational safety (Formastur, 2008). He has a strong background in powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) structural characterization and crystallization techniques. He has implemented and developed several applications and methodologies as the person responsible for PXRD at the Laboratory for Crystallographic Studies, LEC (Spanish National Research Council, CSIC). He also is a member of the Organizing Committee, and a teacher/demonstrator, of the International School of Crystallization (ISC: http://www.iscgranada.org/) and the International School of Biological Crystallization (ISBC: http://www.isbcgranada.org/), organized alternatively every year. Since 2017, Cristóbal has been the organizer and main instructor in the official CSIC postgraduate course "Basics and Applications of Powder Diffraction: Quantitative and Microstructural Analysis and Rietveld Method".

Honors and Awards

Grant-in-Aid

Each year, the International Centre for Diffraction Data (ICDD) extends financial support to qualified investigators, in the form of grants-in-aid awarded on a competing proposal basis, for the preparation of reference X-ray powder diffraction data. The ICDD charter stipulates that the goals of the ICDD include the collection and dissemination of diffraction reference standards and the sponsorship of suitable research projects for the improvement and utilization of such data.
