Dr. Carl J. Legleiter is a Research Hydrologist with the USGS Water Resources Mission Area, Hydrologic Remote Sensing Branch. He conducts research on remote sensing of rivers, specifically retrieval of depth, velocity, and other channel attributes from various types of image data. Recent studies have focused on image velocimetry and spectrally based depth retrieval. Dr. Legleiter holds two Bachelor’s degrees from Montana State University, one in Earth Sciences  and another in Mathematical Sciences. He then completed his M.A. (2004) and Ph.D. (2008) in Geography at UC Santa Barbara. Before joining the USGS, Dr. Carl J. Legleiter served as an Assistant  (2009–2015) Professor and Associate (2015–2016) Professor of Geography at the University of Wyoming.
