Carlos Vilchez earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry (University of Seville, 1992), Doctorate Program in Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He was an Associate Professor of Biochemistry at University of Huelva (UHU) from 2002, and has been a Full Professor of Biochemistry since 2012. He is the P.I. of the Algal Biotechnology research group at UHU. His research activity is in the field of microalgal production optimization and the production of microalgal compounds with value in the food, feed, health and chemistry fields. He has been the supervisor of 10 Ph.D. theses. Since 2003, he has been the P.I. at University of Huelva of 15 research projects granted by several institutions, including the VII EU Framework Program for R&D, the Spanish National Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation, and the Andalusian R&D Plan. He was the P.I. of 11 research contracts with national and international companies, aimed at assessing potential applications of microalgae mainly related to the production of valuable compounds—lipids and other molecules. He is a co-author of more than 90 papers published in indexed journals (SCI).
