Biography

Dr Denise Dillon is Acting Dean of Research and Associate Dean of Research Education at James Cook University’s Singapore campus, where she also chairs the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). A long-serving academic leader, she previously headed the Academic Group for Psychology, Arts and Education for nearly a decade. Denise plays a central role in shaping the strategic direction and culture of research at JCUS, fostering collaborative partnerships, mentoring early-career researchers and higher degree by research (HDR) candidates, and promoting research visibility and impact. Her research is anchored in biophilia—the innate human affinity for life and nature—with a focus on how natural and built environments influence psychological wellbeing, prosocial behaviour, and attention restoration. She has published extensively in environmental psychology, human-animal relations, and ecocritical literature, and is a certified forest therapy guide. Denise is the Editor-in-Chief of the Singapore Psychologist and an Accredited Research Manager (Established) with the Australasian Research Management Society (ARMS), where she also serves on the Singapore Chapter Executive Committee. She is an active member of the International Association of Applied Psychology (Division 4: Environmental Psychology), the International Association for People-Environment Studies (IAPS), and the Singapore Psychological Society.
