I am a researcher and professor at the University of Vigo working in the field of materials engineering. My work combines civil and industrial applications, with a strong interest in cement-based materials and their role in sustainable construction. I investigate the design and development of new cementitious mixes with enhanced or tailored functionalities—such as improved durability, lower environmental impact, or specific mechanical or chemical performance—often incorporating industrial by-products and waste materials. This approach supports circular-economy strategies while advancing material innovation. In parallel, I study corrosion mechanisms in metallic alloys and protective coatings, aiming to understand how materials degrade in real service environments. I focus on advanced characterization techniques and standardized testing methods to evaluate corrosion behavior, material–environment interactions, and long-term durability. Overall, my research seeks to link fundamental materials science with practical engineering solutions for more resilient and sustainable infrastructure.
