Prof. Juergen Pilz is an Emeritus Professor of Applied Statistics at the University of Klagenfurt, Austria. He has authored more than 180 publications in international journals and conference proceedings in the areas of Bayesian statistics, spatial statistics, environmental and industrial statistics, statistical quality control, and the design of experiments. He is the author of six books which appeared in internationally renowned publishing houses such as Wiley, Springer, and Chapman and Hall, and he has edited another four books and several special journal volumes. He obtained his M.Sc., Ph.D., and D.Sc. degrees from Freiberg Technical University in Germany in 1974, 1978, and 1988, respectively, in the areas of mathematics and statistics. From 1989 to 1993, he served as a Professor of Mathematical Geology and Geoinformatics at this university. In 1994, he was appointed as the Professor and Chair of Applied Statistics at the University of Klagenfurt, Austria, and from 2007 to 2015 and 2018 to 2019, he served as the Founding Head of the Department of Statistics at the University of Klagenfurt. He is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS). He is on the editorial boards of several international statistics journals.
