This paper provides the complete details of current challenges and solutions in the cybersecurity of cyber-physical systems (CPS) within the context of the IIoT and its integration with edge computing (IIoT–edge computing). We systematically collected and analyzed the relevant literature from the past five years, applying a rigorous methodology to identify key sources. Our study highlights the prevalent IIoT layer attacks, common intrusion methods, and critical threats facing IIoT–edge computing environments. Additionally, we examine various types of cyberattacks targeting CPS, outlining their significant impact on industrial operations. A detailed taxonomy of primary security mechanisms for CPS within IIoT–edge computing is developed, followed by a comparative analysis of our approach against existing research. The findings underscore the widespread vulnerabilities across the IIoT architecture, particularly in relation to DoS, ransomware, malware, and MITM attacks. The review emphasizes the integration of advanced security technologies, including machine learning (ML), federated learning (FL), blockchain, blockchain–ML, deep learning (DL), encryption, cryptography, IT/OT convergence, and digital twins, as essential for enhancing the security and real-time data protection of CPS in IIoT–edge computing. Finally, the paper outlines potential future research directions aimed at advancing cybersecurity in this rapidly evolving domain.

Today, digital transformation is a major factor that determines the renewal and strategic expansion of higher education institutions. It is not only about the use of technology in classrooms but the whole paradigm of universities organizing learning, research, and societal interaction. This study explores how universities perceive and implement digital change, what factors influence these changes, and what barriers prevent them from moving forward. This research explores both the theory and the real-world application of digital transformation in higher education with an emphasis on creating a national model of a digital university in Kazakhstan. This research adopts a qualitative design and is grounded in well-founded theory principles. A wide range of academic publications from 2020 to 2025 have been reviewed, and key studies were deeply analyzed with the help of Atlas.ti25, which facilitated the identification of recurring themes and conceptual relationships in the higher education sector. The results reveal that successful digital transformation depends on the balancing of the four interrelated factors that are articulated in this study. Among those are empathetic leadership, a trustworthy digital infrastructure, innovative teaching and learning methods, and the continuous development of employee qualifications. The universities that were able to implement digital transformation more thoroughly are usually the ones showing strategic consistency, internal collaboration, and the sustained investment in human and technological resources. However, at the same time, numerous institutions confront financial constraints, weak infrastructure, and faculty members’ varying levels of digital preparedness. To the problems mentioned above, this research offers a Digital University Model which sees the university as a changing ecosystem that merges institutional, technological, pedagogical, and cultural processes into one structure of ongoing innovation. This study continues the discussions on digital transformation in higher education in a clear and accessible manner. The authors explain how digitalization influences the development of universities and colleges, offering valuable guidance for institutional leaders and decision makers. In addition, this article presents concrete and practical recommendations that can support educational institutions in advancing their digital maturity.

Automating real-time sign language translation through deep learning and machine learning techniques can greatly enhance communication between the deaf community and the wider public. This research investigates how these technologies can change the way individuals with speech impairments communicate. Despite advancements, developing accurate models for recognizing both static and dynamic gestures remains challenging due to variations in gesture speed and length, which affect the effectiveness of the models. We introduce a hybrid approach that merges machine learning and deep learning methods for sign language recognition. We provide new model for the recognition of Kazakh Sign Language (QazSL), employing five algorithms: Support Vector Machine (SVM), Long Short Term Memory (LSTM), Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) with VGG19, ResNet-50, and YOLOv5. The models were trained on a QazSL dataset of more than 4,400 photos. Among the assessed models, the GRU attained the highest accuracy of 100%, followed closely by SVM and YOLOv5 at 99.98%, VGG19 at 98.87% for dynamic dactyls, LSTM at 85%, and ResNet-50 at 78.61%. These findings illustrate the comparative efficacy of each method in real-time gesture recognition. The results yield significant insights for enhancing sign language recognition systems, presenting possible advancements in accessibility and communication for those with hearing impairments.

Wireless sensor networks have become a vital technology that is extensively applied across multiple industries, including agriculture, industrial operations, and smart cities, as well as residential smart homes and environmental monitoring systems. Security threats emerge in these systems through hidden routing-level attacks such as Wormhole and Sinkhole attacks. The aim of this research was to develop a methodology for detecting security incidents in WSNs by conducting real-time analysis of Wormhole and Sinkhole attacks. Furthermore, the paper proposes a novel detection methodology combined with architectural enhancements to improve network robustness, measured by hop counts, delays, false data ratios, and route integrity. A real-time WSN infrastructure was developed using ZigBee and Global System for Mobile Communications/General Packet Radio Service (GSM/GPRS) technologies. To realistically simulate Wormhole and Sinkhole attack scenarios and conduct evaluations, we developed a modular cyber–physical architecture that supports real-time monitoring, repeatability, and integration of ZigBee- and GSM/GPRS-based attacker nodes. During the experimentation, Wormhole attacks caused the hop count to decrease from 4 to 3, while the average delay increased by 40%, and false sensor readings were introduced in over 30% of cases. Additionally, Sinkhole attacks led to a 27% increase in traffic concentration at the malicious node, disrupting load balancing and route integrity. The proposed multi-stage methodology includes data collection, preprocessing, anomaly detection using the 3-sigma rule, and risk-based decision making. Simulation results demonstrated that the methodology successfully detected route shortening, packet loss, and data manipulation in real time. Thus, the integration of anomaly-based detection with ZigBee and GSM/GPRS enables a timely response to security threats in critical WSN deployments.

The proliferation of IoT devices has heightened their susceptibility to cyberattacks, particularly botnets. Conventional security methods frequently prove inadequate because of the restricted processing capabilities of IoT devices. This paper suggests utilizing machine learning methods to enhance the detection of attacks in Internet of Things (IoT) environments. The paper presents a novel approach to detect different botnet assaults on IoT devices by utilizing ML methods such as XGBoost, Random Forest, LightGBM, and Decision Tree. These algorithms were examined using the N-BaIoT dataset to classify multi-class botnet attacks and were specifically designed to accommodate the limitations of IoT devices. The technique comprises the steps of data preparation, preprocessing, classifier training, and decision-making. The algorithms achieved high detection accuracy rates: XGBoost (99.18%), Random Forest (99.20%), LGBM (99.85%), and Decision Tree (99.17%). The LGBM model demonstrated exceptional performance. The incorporation of the attack evaluation model greatly enhanced the identification of botnets in IoT networks. The paper displays the efficacy of machine learning techniques in identifying botnet assaults in IoT networks. The models generated exhibit exceptional accuracy and can be seamlessly integrated into existing cybersecurity systems.
