Dr Barclay is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Occupational Therapy, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University. She has been Course Coordinator of the Masters of Occupational Therapy Practice course since 2019. Dr Barclay has been involved in developing curriculum and has taught in both the occupational therapy under graduate and Masters by Practice degrees in Occupational Therapy. She also supervises honours, masters and doctoral students. Dr Barclay has extensive clinical experience working with people with acquired disability, in particular spinal cord injury. Her research program focuses on maximising the community integration outcomes for people with spinal cord injury (SCI). Current research projects include: examining health and wellbeing outcomes following spinal cord injury rehabilitation; early vocational intervention following severe trauma; impact of peer mentoring on community participation for people with spinal cord injury; inclusion of people with lived experience of disability in curriculum design and delivery; use of online learning platforms for occupational therapy education; and the value of hospital-based occupational therapy services for older people being discharged from acute wards. She has expertise in qualitative and participatory research methods.
