Information

Patma Vityakon is a full professor (retired) of soil science. She earned her doctoral degree in Agronomy and soil science in 1986 from the University of Hawaii. She worked at Khon Kaen University during 1979-2022. She is currently involved in soils research with several graduate students and young colleagues. Her more than 40 years research experience involves the following areas: 1. Soil biogeochemistry - Soil organic matter (SOM): its accumulation in coarse-textured soils and roles of different fractions of SOM in C, N and P cycling and decomposition of plant residues differing in their chemical quality - Biochar - Acid soils - Potassium in rice paddy - Agroforestry 2. Nutritional qualities of crops - Nitrate and oxalate accumulation in vegetables as influenced by soil nutrient environment 3. Land degradation as affected by land use change 4. Farming systems research She was a member of Soil Science Society of America (1987-2022).
