Biography

Dr. Tongbin Shao is an Associate Researcher at the Institute of Geology, China Earthquake Administration. His research program bridges experimental rock mechanics and geodynamics to address fundamental questions in earthquake science. His previous work, documented in dozens of peer-reviewed publications, has extensively utilized high-pressure and high-temperature experiments to investigate rock rheology, dehydration kinetics, and rock physics of Earth materials. Some of these studies have provided key insights into subduction zone processes. Building on this foundation, his current research focuses specifically on the mechanical properties of hydrous minerals. By examining their deformation and frictional behavior, he aims to elucidate the governing mechanisms behind intermediate-depth and slow earthquakes, advancing our understanding of subduction zone dynamics. In addition to his research, he actively contributes to the scientific community as a reviewer for journals such as JGR: Solid Earth and Communications Earth & Environment, and for the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
