The study aims to investigate the impacts of internal and external stakeholder pressures on the adoption of circular economy (CE) principles. The study explores the primary barriers to and causes (external or internal stakeholder pressures) of CE’s transition across Mexico and explores the effects of stakeholder pressures (internal and external) on the adoption of CE principles on economic and environmental performance. For this, data were collected from 433 respondents using a structured questionnaire. For analysis, the study used the PLS-SEM technique to examine internal and external stakeholders as barriers and motivators of economic and environmental performance through CE principles. Both the structural model and the measurement model were assessed. As well as mediation analysis, the direct and indirect effects were determined. The study found that economic (β = 0.178, p = 0.000) and environmental performance (β = 0.233, p = 0.000) is affected by most external stakeholders through the adoption of circular economy principles. Although the internal stakeholders don’t affect the environmental performance (β = 0.040, p = 0.492), with the adoption of circular economy principles mediating the relationship, internal stakeholders encourage environmental performance (β = 0.201, p = 0.000). The study motivates the public, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the government to adopt CE principles for the achievement of economic and environmental performance and participation in the sustainable development agenda.

: The objective of this paper was to demonstrate that the promotion of aquaculture clusters as a policy option for developing tilapia aquaculture in Mexico, resulting from glocal externalities as competitive advantages to the global market, is necessary to further develop the sector. The farmed tilapia clusters were described using data from the Veracruz Aquaculture Census, 2010. We then utilise three theories. Firstly, we focus on North (1955) and Krugman (1995) and find that Economic geography and localisation verified that conglomeration is a function of natural resources and population zones. Secondly, we investigate the Porter value system. Cluster competitive advantage was identified in water availability and water access, electric supply coverage, product presentation, and the local market. Thirdly, we apply the Altenburg and Meyer-Stamer (1999) model to identify cluster type, which classifies typology based on natural resource access and the inputs and technologies commercial balance. The Veracruz Tilapia cluster diagnostic showed an incipient development with remarked opportunity areas, where efforts should be directed, supported by a cluster strategy. However, Mexico and the Port city of Veracruz should diversify their economy. We conclude that adopting a cluster strategy for aquaculture is necessary in Mexico to both increase global competitiveness and to supply the local market.

Wild chilis are considered a plant-genetic resource native to Mexico; however, the lack of studies on their phytochemical composition limits their sustainable commercial use. This study aimed to evaluate the concentration of capsaicinoids and polyphenols in three varieties of wild chilis from Tezonapa in the high mountains of Veracruz, Mexico, and their correlation with their antioxidant capacity. Determining antioxidant activity and quantifying total polyphenols were performed using spectrophotometric methods, while capsaicinoids were quantified by liquid chromatography. The chili variety factor significantly affected (p≤0.05) antioxidant activity determined by 2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) ABTS and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) methods and capsaicinoid concentration. The community factor significantly affected (p≤0.05) the variables mentioned above, in addition to the concentration of total polyphenols. Chiltepin and Mirasol varieties from the community of Manzanares had the highest concentration of total capsaicinoids (246.58 ± 14.93 and 256.75 ± 7.15 mg/100 g). In the case of Tabaquero, those from the community of Cerro Azul presented the highest concentration of capsaicinoids (345.93 ± 14.25 mg/100 g). The three Cerro Azul chili varieties had the highest total polyphenols concentration. The total polyphenols concentration was positively correlated with the antioxidant activity of wild chilis, indicating that these are the main compounds responsible for the antioxidant characteristics in these chili varieties. The knowledge generated in this research will contribute to the conservation of these chili species and benefit the communities of Tezonapa by exploiting these fruits for the agro-food sectors focused on functional foods.

A reduction of up to 40% in fishing due to the effects of climate change in tropical regions is expected, causing the impact on primary productivity affecting mainly fish populations that carry out their reproduction in reefs and estuaries; In addition to this, there is no physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet the food needs of the population. For these reasons aquaculture was thought of as a response to the reduction of fishing and sustainable food production, with a native fish that lives in areas of estuaries and reefs, such as the sea bream, which due to its biological and economic characteristics may be suitable for aquaculture To this end, an experimental culture was established from December 2011 to March 2012 at the Technological Institute of Boca del Río, consisting of 2circular ponds of 25 m3, in closed area, with aquaculture recirculation system, salinity of 30 ppm (+1), pH of 8.3 (+ 0.4) and temperature of 26 ° C (+ 2). At first, aggressive behavior was observed, so shelters were introduced and an improvement was observed. A diet of bivalve molluscs was established, afterwith a custard based on squid and finally with balanced food. Being that it had good adaptation to captivity, good acceptance of the balanced feed, obtaining a 95% survival in culture, in addition the sea bream has good wreck in the market, for these reasons it is considered a suitable species for the culture.
