The purpose of the study was to compare classical primary suture repair and sutureless repair with fibrin glue or DuraSeal adhesion barrier for the closure of duodenal perforation in rats. Forty adult female Wistar Albino rats weighing between 250-300 g were randomly divided into four equal groups. Primary repair, primary repair and omentoplasty, or application of fibrin glue or DuraSeal adhesion barrier was performed in each of the four groups, respectively. The bursting pressure, tissue hydroxyproline levels and histopathology were evaluated. Bursting pressure values of the primary repair and primary repair and omentoplasty groups were significantly higher than in the fibrin glue and DuraSeal groups (p < 0.001). There were no significant differences between the experimental groups regarding hydroxyproline levels and histological parameters. The sutureless methods (Fibrin glue, DuraSeal) have no superior effects when compared with the conventional repair techniques. We observed similar results between the sutureless repair groups; thus, DuraSeal can be considered an alternative to fibrin glue for this purpose. This suggestion must be supported with new studies, however, which would be planned with other wound healing markers and different designs.

Background: Bronchiectasis is described as destruction and the irreversible dilatation of bronchial structure. We wanted to demonstrate our surgical practice and outcome of surgical treatment in bronchiectasis. Methods: We studied records of 60 pediatric patients who underwent surgical resection in our clinic between January 2000 and January 2013. The results were analyzed regarding factors influencing the outcome. Results: There were 32 boys and 28 girls with a mean age of 9.45 years (range 2–15). The most common cause was childhood infection in 25 (41.66%). The mean duration of the symptoms was 42.93 months. Patients underwent 64 operations including 2 staged thoracotomies and 2 re-thoracotomies. Atelectasis was the most frequent complication. Longer duration of symptoms related to postoperative complication. The morbidity and mortality rates were 20% and 3.33%, respectively. The outcome was optimal in 92%. Forced expiratory volume in 1 s less than 60% of the predicted value, hemoptysis and duration of symptoms were found prognostic variables for postoperative morbidity with high ratios of odds coefficients by using Binary Logistic Regression Method. Conclusions: Complete and early resection of bronchiectasis provides a successful outcome. Duration of symptoms and timely intervention have a major impact on the management and prognosis.

Intrabiliary rupture is the most common complication of liver hydatid cysts, intraperitoneal rupture is rarely seen, but it can be life-threatening. A 57-year-old female patient complained of abdominal pain and a hydatid cyst was found in the left liver lobe, as well as an intra-abdominal cystic mass due to intraperitoneal rupture. The patient's medical history showed that she was admitted to the emergency department with complaints of abdominal pain two months earlier, the liver hydatid cyst and intra-abdominal fluid were detected. However, there were no acute abdominal findings, so no emergency intervention was done. She was operated on electively. Surgical exploration showed a ruptured hydatid cyst of the left liver lobe, with a cystic mass that limited itself perfectly in the peritoneal cavity. Especially in endemic regions, primary care and emergency physicians should consider ruptured disease for patients with abdominal pain and liver hydatid cyst. The aim of this article, in light of the literature, is to emphasize that the rupture of hydatid cysts may not represent catastrophic clinical signs.
