Currently, there are significant changes in industrial process control, intelligent building control and automation technologies under pressure to reduce operating costs and to integrate important advances in telecommunications and software. The software has become an essential factor in production and enterprise-wide systems. Internet connection has fundamentally changed the arrangements for monitoring and control, and the use of open/public standards and personal computer systems (PCs, tablets, smart phones) bring significant benefits to their users and producers. This led to the definition of Industry 4.0 that brings the concept of the Internet of Things in the industry. In this article, we want to present an Internet of Things architecture based on OPC.NET specifications which can be used in both industrial environments and smart building.

Task switching, synchronization, and communication between processes are major problems for each real-time operating system. Software implementation of the specific mechanisms may lead to significant delays that can affect deadline requirements for some applications. This paper presents a hardware scheduler architecture integrated into the CPU structure that uses resource remapping techniques for the pipeline registers and for the CPU working registers. We present an original implementation of the hardware structure used for static and dynamic scheduling of the task, unitary management of events, access to architecture shared resources, event generation, and a method used for assigning interrupts to tasks that insures an efficient operation in the context of real-time control. One assembler instruction is used for simultaneous task synchronization with multiple event sources. This architecture allows a task switching time of one clock cycle (with a worst case scenario of three clock cycles for special instructions used for external memory accesses) and a response time of only 1.5 clock cycles for the events. Some mechanisms for improving program execution speed are also taken in consideration.

The expansion of the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT), together with wireless sensor networks, has given rise to a wide range of IoT applications. This paper presents and describes the concept, theory of operation, and practical results of a Telecare-ECG (Electrocardiogram) Monitoring device, designed for the remote monitoring of out-of-hospital cardiac patients. ECG monitoring using the Telecare-ECG Monitor system ensures a better quality of life for patients and greater possibilities for the real-time monitoring and signaling of sporadic cardiac events, by recording instantaneous cardiac arrhythmias captured during certain activities or in the daily environment of the patient; furthermore, hospital resources are less impacted by this device than other devices. In accordance with the novelty and contribution of this paper to the field of ECG investigations, the results obtained in the analysis, testing, and validation of the Telecare-ECG Monitor system refer to the optimization of the functionality of the mobile ECG device under conditions that were as similar to reality as possible.

System response time is a key element in hard real time systems. In classical Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) based on software schedulers, overhead and jitter are a major problem when the number of tasks and the rate of context switches are high. Increased values for those parameters over admissible values can lead to performance degradation, increased power consumption or even deadline misses. If a part of the scheduling components or the entire functionality is moved from software to hardware, a significant improvement in task switching times can be achieved. This paper presents a custom designed multi pipeline register architecture (MPRA) that has a dedicated hardware scheduler unit integrated into the CPU.

This paper aims at presenting the implementation of a functional model of IoT gateway. The Gateway aims at extending the connectivity of Modbus devices networks to IoT by performing local data processing. Within the implementation process, we've used modern development technologies, such as .NET Core, and a microservice-based application architecture. The implementation is based on a bus data scanning component, using pre-processed commands for read and write actions. Scanned data is stored locally, and when there is a change in the values, it is transmitted to all interested clients via an MQTT broker. A case study was conducted to select the best broker. This study aims at highlighting the performance of three brokers (ActiveMQ, Mosquitto and HiveMQ) by transmitting a continuous data flow. The IoT gateway was implemented using Raspberry PI devices.
