Background/Objectives: Advanced drug delivery systems (DDSs) are essential for targeted delivery, controlled release, and reduced systemic toxicity, but their clinical adoption is limited by biological barriers, manufacturing complexities, and cost. The aim of this systematic review is to critically evaluate the quantitative relationships between platform design, overcoming biological barriers, and clinical translation outcomes for DDS developed between 2016 and 2025. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science (January 2016–April 2025) in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Included studies focused on experimental or clinical data for nanocarrier platforms (liposomes, lipid nanoparticles, polymer systems, biomimetic carriers, extracellular vesicles). Data on platform characteristics, interactions with barriers, pharmacokinetics, manufacturing, and clinical outcomes were extracted and synthesized in narrative form due to the significant methodological heterogeneity. Results: An analysis of 77 included studies confirms that successful clinical translation depends on matching the physicochemical properties of the carrier (size, surface chemistry, material) to specific biological barriers. Liposomes and lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) remain the most clinically validated platforms, exploiting the EPR effect and liver tropism, respectively. Key engineering solutions include stealth coatings, ligand-mediated targeting, and stimulus-responsive materials to overcome barriers such as mononuclear phagocyte system clearance, the blood–brain barrier, and mucosal barriers. Microfluidic and continuous manufacturing processes enable reproducibility, but scalability, cost, and immunogenicity (e.g., anti-PEG responses) remain key translational challenges. Engineered extracellular vesicles, biomimetic carriers, and 3D/4D-printed systems combined with AI-driven design demonstrate the potential for personalized, adaptive delivery. Conclusions: Cutting-edge DDSs have validated their clinical value, but realizing their full potential requires a holistic, patient-centered design approach integrating barrier-specific engineering, scalable manufacturing, and rigorous safety assessment from the earliest stages of development. Further progress will depend on standardizing methods for new platforms (e.g., extracellular vesicles), implementing digital and AI tools, and ensuring translational feasibility as a fundamental principle.

This paper presents a study of the kinetics of neodymium and praseodymium ions sorption using interpolymer systems based on KU-2-8 and AB-17-8 in salt forms. Sorption of target ions was carried out in a dynamic mode (with constant stirring) in interpolymer systems in molar ratios of 4:2 and 3:3 (cation exchanger to anion exchanger). Aliquots were collected during certain time intervals, then widely known kinetic models of sorption were used to construct linear graphs. According to the obtained results, the best model for describing sorption was pseudo-first order (the highest value for the 4:2 system = 0.97885 and 0.98112; for the 3:3 system = 0.9647 and 0.98779). Such results are important for understanding the mechanisms of the sorption process and establishing the limiting factor that can slow down this process. The kinetic model of pseudo-first order may indicate the need to improve the washing out of counterions from the polyelectrolyte matrix for their high ionization and accessibility of functional groups for metal ions. This assumption can be used in the future to optimize industrial schemes of ion-exchange sorption of REE.

The escalating demand for precious metals in high-tech industries and jewelry, combined with the depletion of their reserves, underscores the need for efficient methods of gold recovery from industrial effluents. An interpolymer system comprising industrial ion exchangers KU-2-8 (in H+ form) and AV-17-8 (in OH− form) demonstrated strong selective sorption capacity for Au(I) ions from a simulated Au(I)/Fe(II) mixed solution. The optimal KU-2-8:AV-17-8 (3:3) system achieved a sorption efficiency of 97.0% for Au(I) ions after 48 h with a desorption efficiency of 98.0% using a thiourea/sulfuric acid solution. The distribution coefficient (Kd) for Au(I) ions reached a maximum of 3233.3 mL/g at the 3:3 ratio, with a separation coefficient (β) of 40.62, indicating exceptional selectivity over Fe(II) ions. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy revealed structural changes post-sorption, including shifts in absorption bands (e.g., from 1273.5 cm−1 to 1292.9 cm−1) and the appearance of new bands (e.g., at 3171.1 cm−1), confirming stable ion interactions. Thermogravimetric analysis/differential scanning calorimetry (TGA/DSC) demonstrated enhanced thermal stability post-sorption, with reduced mass loss up to 100 °C. These findings highlight the KU-2-8:AV-17-8 (3:3) interpolymer system’s high selectivity, robust sorption capacity, and efficient desorption, presenting a sustainable solution for gold recovery in hydrometallurgical applications.

This study presents a method for the efficient separation of gold and iron ions using cross-linked polyelectrolyte interpolymer systems. The research aims to investigate the sorption behavior resulting from the remote interaction of intergel systems based on polymethacrylic acid (gPMAA) and poly-4-vinylpyridine (gP4VP) hydrogels. According to the atomic emission spectroscopy results, the individual gPMAA (6:0) hydrogel exhibits negligible activity toward gold ions, with a sorption degree of only 5.97%, while maintaining a high sorption efficiency for iron ions at approximately 90.27%. The interpolymer interaction effect is most pronounced in the equimolar (3:3) intergel system, where the sorption efficiency for gold ions significantly increases, reaching a peak of 63.97% after 24 h of contact. In contrast, the sorption efficiency for iron ions remains consistently high across all molar ratios, fluctuating between 88.27% and 91.33%. The polymer chain binding degree (θ) further confirms these trends, reaching maximum values of 1.09% for gold and 7.18% for iron ions. These findings demonstrate that the gPMAA-gP4VP system possesses a high selective affinity for iron over gold under the studied conditions, providing a viable approach for the selective separation and recovery of metals from multicomponent industrial solutions.

To meet global demand, pesticides play a very important role in the control of pests that damage agricultural products. However, overuse of pesticides threatens ecosystems and human health. In recent years, gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, capillary chromatography and capillary electrophoresis have been used in the determination of pesticides. Although these methods are highly specific, highly selective and sensitive, the high value of sophisticated laboratory equipment and tools is a complex and time-consuming process. Because of this, electrochemical sensors and biosensor platforms have become good analytical methods for detecting pesticides due to a number of advantages, including ease of detection of system manufacturing processes, high sensitivity and selectivity. This article describes the methods of manufacturing portable electrochemical sensors for detecting pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables on site, that is, the achievements in recent years in the field of cyclic voltammetry, square wave voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. In addition, detailed information is provided on the basic mechanism and electrochemical sensitivity of these methods. The development of electrochemical methods and real-time monitoring of smartphone technologies, as well as their integration with detection platforms, are discussed. For readers with a scientific and technological focus, this article will provide additional valuable information for understanding the creation of portable electrochemical devices, rapid detection of pesticides, the role of electrochemical sensitive methods and contributing to their further development.

In this study, the oxidative upgrading of heavy oil residues using polymer-containing waste for the sustainable production of bitumen was investigated. Oxidation was performed at temperatures of 250–270 °C for 3–4 h with the addition of 2–3 wt.% polyethylene-based waste, under an air flow of 7 L/min. The physical and mechanical characterization of the resulting bitumen demonstrated compliance with oxidized modified bitumen grades OMB 100/130 and OMB 70/100. FTIR spectroscopy revealed the formation of carbonyl and sulfoxide functional groups, indicating the effective oxidative transformation of the bitumen matrix and partial incorporation of polyethylene fragments. NMR spectroscopy confirmed increased aromaticity and carbonyl content, while also detecting polyethylene-derived signals, suggesting compatibility and integration of the polymer waste into the oxidized structure. The thermal and rheological results showed that the optimal conditions for producing high-quality oxidized bitumen involved the use of 2% polymer waste at 270 °C for 4 h, yielding enhanced physical properties and chemical stability. These findings support the feasibility of using polymer-containing waste for bitumen upgrading, offering both environmental and technical advantages. The method not only improves the quality of bitumen but also contributes to waste valorization and circular economy practices in the road construction industry.
