José M. Mulet (Denia, Spain, 1973) graduated in chemistry and Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Valencia (Spain) under the supervision of Prof. Ramón Serrano studying ion homeostasis in yeast. He did a three-year postdoctoral stage at the University of Basel (Switzerland) under the supervision of Prof. Michael Hall. He is currently a full professor of biotechnology at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and directs a line of research at the IBMCP, a joint center of the CSIC and UPV, in which he is vice-director investigating potassium transport and its relation to abiotic stress tolerance in plants. He also investigates the molecular mechanisms of biostimulants in crop plants. He is very active in the public GMO debate. He is the author of the book "Eating without Fear" of which more than 20,000 copies have been sold and has been published in several countries, "transgenics without fear" and 8 other science divulgation books. He writes the “Science without Fiction” section in “El País Semanal”, the most widely read newspaper in Spain and collaborates with several mainstream media.
