During this corona outbreak or any situation of casualties, artificial breathing support might be necessary to the affected patients. This paper presents a porotype design and developing process of low-cost Bluetooth technology-based noninvasive volume control emergency medical ventilator for respiratory support. Arduino mega used as the main control board. The rack and pinion system are used to press the Ambu bag by which pressurized oxygen mixed air can be supply to the patient’s lung. Four control parameters like BPM, I: E ratio, Volume, and Pressure can be set by the keypad of the ventilator manually, and also it can be possible remotely by mobile application. Mechanical design is done in a Solid-work designing software platform. The hardware and PCB design are done in the Proteus software package. Finally, the prototype developed according to design, and the results are presented in this paper.

This paper proposed a new single phase cycloconverter for ac drives. The proposed cycloconverter consists of specially tapped transformer (STT) with four thyristors. STT has three terminals in secondary winding with two different voltage levels. Secondary side of STT is connected to the two back to back half wave rectifier and load. Proposed cycloconverter converts 50 Hz frequency to 16.67 Hz frequency power supply and produces near to the sinusoidal output voltage. Microcontroller based circuit is designed to generate gating pulses for thyristors, and a prototype is built to verify theoretical and simulation results. Total harmonic distortion (THD) of proposed cycloconverter is 59.09% which is lower than the other existing design. The results show that the proposed method is of practical significance to improve the application level of cycloconverter in speed control of ac drives.

The economy of Bangladesh is mostly dependent upon agriculture that requires an innovative and reliable system for irrigation. The limitations of conventional systems can be reformed by employing smart irrigation systems which will be IoT (Internet of Things) based and automated. This paper offers the idea of smart irrigation and the following research conveys the idea. The process of smart irrigation is done by the help of soil moisture sensors placed adjacent to the roots of plants since plants need sufficient water to their roots, not the surface of lands yet the conventional system checks the surface water level of lands and makes decisions on it. Thus, no sooner does the water reach the roots of plants than an extra amount of water is supplied on the lands as wastage. The proposed system is totally IoT based and solar panels are employed in it for pollution free energy supply. In order to produce 1kg of rice, water savings in conventional irrigation is around 35% however this proposed smart irrigation system can increase the water savings rate to 64%.

Blood and its components are essential for life and often required to be transfused in critical health condition. However, such transfusion is reported to be associated with the risk of transfusion transmissible infections (TTIs) with notable pathogens e.g. Hepatitis B virus (HBV), Hepatitis C virus (HCV), Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Treponema pallidum. These pathogens are of major public health concern especially in developing countries like Bangladesh. Increase in the number of TTIs is found to be associated with improper management of safe blood transfusion protocol (SBTP) and unethical practices. This study focuses on the prevalence of such TTIs in volunteers’ blood collected between October and December 2018 from Sakhawath Memorial and Avicina Hospitals in Shirajgong district. Prevalence rate of HIV, HBsAg, HCV and Treponema pallidum were 1.2%, 6.8%, 0.8% and 1.6%, respectively. Among the infected individuals, 75% HIV positive cases were professionals, 70% HCV infected cases wwere from other professional groups and 50% of syphilis infected were homemakers. Male donors showed higher incidence rate of HBV (65%), HCV (72%) and HIV (85%) compared to the female donors. Although the findings of the study showed prevalence of TTIs in volunteer blood donors (VBDs) at an alarming rate, most of the infected individuals were not aware of their infections and potential risk of transmission from them. It is necessary to create awareness among blood donors about possible causes of transmission and prevention of infection . Such initiative from both governmental and non-governmental organizations can help reduce TTIs among VBDs. Bangladesh J Microbiol, Volume 36 Number 2 December 2019, pp 105-109
