Amid the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, the closure of educational institutes leads to an unprecedented rise in online learning. For limiting the impact of COVID-19 and obstructing its widespread, educational institutions closed their campuses immediately and academic activities are moved to e-learning platforms. The effectiveness of e-learning is a critical concern for both students and parents, specifically in terms of its suitability to students and teachers and its technical feasibility with respect to different social scenarios. Such concerns must be reviewed from several aspects before e-learning can be adopted at such a larger scale. This study endeavors to investigate the effectiveness of e-learning by analyzing the sentiments of people about e-learning. Due to the rise of social media as an important mode of communication recently, people’s views can be found on platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc. This study uses a Twitter dataset containing 17,155 tweets about e-learning. Machine learning and deep learning approaches have shown their suitability, capability, and potential for image processing, object detection, and natural language processing tasks and text analysis is no exception. Machine learning approaches have been largely used both for annotation and text and sentiment analysis. Keeping in view the adequacy and efficacy of machine learning models, this study adopts TextBlob, VADER (Valence Aware Dictionary for Sentiment Reasoning), and SentiWordNet to analyze the polarity and subjectivity score of tweets’ text. Furthermore, bearing in mind the fact that machine learning models display high classification accuracy, various machine learning models have been used for sentiment classification. Two feature extraction techniques, TF-IDF (Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency) and BoW (Bag of Words) have been used to effectively build and evaluate the models. All the models have been evaluated in terms of various important performance metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. The results reveal that the random forest and support vector machine classifier achieve the highest accuracy of 0.95 when used with Bow features. Performance comparison is carried out for results of TextBlob, VADER, and SentiWordNet, as well as classification results of machine learning models and deep learning models such as CNN (Convolutional Neural Network), LSTM (Long Short Term Memory), CNN-LSTM, and Bi-LSTM (Bidirectional-LSTM). Additionally, topic modeling is performed to find the problems associated with e-learning which indicates that uncertainty of campus opening date, children’s disabilities to grasp online education, and lagging efficient networks for online education are the top three problems.

Pneumonia is one of the leading causes of death in both infants and elderly people, with approximately 4 million deaths each year. It may be a virus, bacterial, or fungal, depending on the contagious pathogen that damages the lung’s tiny air sacs (alveoli). Patients with underlying disorders such as asthma, a weakened immune system, hospitalized babies, and older persons on ventilators are all at risk, particularly if pneumonia is not detected early. Despite the existing approaches for its diagnosis, low accuracy and efficiency require further research for more accurate systems. This study is a similar endeavor for the detection of pneumonia by the use of X-ray images. The dataset is preprocessed to make it suitable for transfer learning tasks. Different pre-trained convolutional neural network (CNN) variants are utilized, including VGG16, Inception-v3, and ResNet50. Ensembles are made by incorporating CNN with Inception-V3, VGG-16, and ResNet50. Besides the common evaluation metrics, the performance of the pre-trained and ensemble deep learning models is measured with Cohen’s kappa as well as the area under the curve (AUC). Experimental results show that Inception-V3 with CNN attained the highest accuracy and recall score of 99.29% and 99.73%, respectively.

Alzheimer’s disease is an incurable neurological disorder that leads to a gradual decline in cognitive abilities, but early detection can significantly mitigate symptoms. The automatic diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease is more important due to the shortage of expert medical staff, because it reduces the burden on medical staff and enhances the results of diagnosis. A detailed analysis of specific brain disorder tissues is required to accurately diagnose the disease via segmented magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Several studies have used the traditional machine-learning approaches to diagnose the disease from MRI, but manual extracted features are more complex, time-consuming, and require a huge amount of involvement from expert medical staff. The traditional approach does not provide an accurate diagnosis. Deep learning has automatic extraction features and optimizes the training process. The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Alzheimer’s disease dataset consists of four classes: mild demented (896 images), moderate demented (64 images), non-demented (3200 images), and very mild demented (2240 images). The dataset is highly imbalanced. Therefore, we used the adaptive synthetic oversampling technique to address this issue. After applying this technique, the dataset was balanced. The ensemble of VGG16 and EfficientNet was used to detect Alzheimer’s disease on both imbalanced and balanced datasets to validate the performance of the models. The proposed method combined the predictions of multiple models to make an ensemble model that learned complex and nuanced patterns from the data. The input and output of both models were concatenated to make an ensemble model and then added to other layers to make a more robust model. In this study, we proposed an ensemble of EfficientNet-B2 and VGG-16 to diagnose the disease at an early stage with the highest accuracy. Experiments were performed on two publicly available datasets. The experimental results showed that the proposed method achieved 97.35% accuracy and 99.64% AUC for multiclass datasets and 97.09% accuracy and 99.59% AUC for binary-class datasets. We evaluated that the proposed method was extremely efficient and provided superior performance on both datasets as compared to previous methods.

Parkinson’s disease is the second-most common cause of death and disability as well as the most prevalent neurological disorder. In the last 15 years, the number of cases of PD has doubled. The accurate detection of PD in the early stages is one of the most challenging tasks to ensure individuals can continue to live with as little interference as possible. Yet there are not enough trained neurologists around the world to detect Parkinson’s disease in its early stages. Machine learning methods based on Artificial intelligence have acquired a lot of popularity over the past few decades in medical disease detection. However, these methods do not provide an accurate and timely diagnosis. The overall detection accuracy of machine learning-related models is inadequate. This study collected data from 31 male and female patients, including 195 voices. Approximately six recordings were created per patient, with the length of each recording extending from 1 to 36 s. These voices were recorded in a soundproof studio using an Industrial Acoustics Company (IAC) AKG-C420 head-mounted microphone. The data set was collected to investigate the diagnostic significance of speech and voice abnormalities caused by Parkinson’s disease. An imbalanced dataset is the main contributor of model overfitting and generalization errors, and hence one class has the majority of samples and the other class has minority samples. This problem is addressed in this study by utilizing the three sampling techniques. After balancing the datasets, each class has the same number of samples, which has proven valuable in improving the model’s performance and reducing the overfitting problem. Four performance metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall and f1 score are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid model. Experiments demonstrated that the proposed model achieved 100% accuracy, recall and f1 score using the balanced dataset with the random oversampling technique and 100% precision, 97% recall, 99% AUC score and 91% f1 score with the SMOTE technique.

Chatbots are AI-powered programs designed to replicate human conversation. They are capable of performing a wide range of tasks, including answering questions, offering directions, controlling smart home thermostats, and playing music, among other functions. ChatGPT is a popular AI-based chatbot that generates meaningful responses to queries, aiding people in learning. While some individuals support ChatGPT, others view it as a disruptive tool in the field of education. Discussions about this tool can be found across different social media platforms. Analyzing the sentiment of such social media data, which comprises people’s opinions, is crucial for assessing public sentiment regarding the success and shortcomings of such tools. This study performs a sentiment analysis and topic modeling on ChatGPT-based tweets. ChatGPT-based tweets are the author’s extracted tweets from Twitter using ChatGPT hashtags, where users share their reviews and opinions about ChatGPT, providing a reference to the thoughts expressed by users in their tweets. The Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) approach is employed to identify the most frequently discussed topics in relation to ChatGPT tweets. For the sentiment analysis, a deep transformer-based Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) model with three dense layers of neural networks is proposed. Additionally, machine and deep learning models with fine-tuned parameters are utilized for a comparative analysis. Experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed BERT model, achieving an accuracy of 96.49%.

ChatGPT OpenAI, a large-language chatbot model, has gained a lot of attention due to its popularity and impressive performance in many natural language processing tasks. ChatGPT produces superior answers to a wide range of real-world human questions and generates human-like text. The new OpenAI ChatGPT technology may have some strengths and weaknesses at this early stage. Users have reported early opinions about the ChatGPT features, and their feedback is essential to recognize and fix its shortcomings and issues. This study uses the ChatGPT tweets Arabic dataset to automatically find user opinions and sentiments about ChatGPT technology. The dataset is preprocessed and labeled using the TextBlob Arabic Python library into positive, negative, and neutral tweets. Despite extensive works for the English language, languages like Arabic are less studied regarding tweet analysis. Existing literature about Arabic tweet sentiment analysis has mainly focused on machine learning and deep learning models. We collected a total of 27,780 unstructured tweets from Twitter using the Tweepy SNscrape Python library using various hash-tags such as # Chat-GPT, #OpenAI, #Chatbot, Chat-GPT3, and so on. To enhance the model’s performance and reduce computational complexity, unstructured tweets are converted into structured and normalized forms. Tweets contain missing values, URL and HTML tags, stop words, punctuation, diacritics, elongations, and numeric values that have no impact on the model performance; hence, these increase the computational cost. So, these steps are removed with the help of Python preprocessing libraries to enhance text quality and consistency. This study adopts Transformer-based models such as RoBERTa, XLNet, and DistilBERT that automatically classify the tweets. Additionally, a hybrid transformer-based model is proposed to obtain better results. The proposed hybrid model is developed by combining the hidden outputs of the RoBERTA and BERT models using a concatenation layer, then adding dense layers with “Relu” activation employed as a hidden layer to create non-linearity and a “softmax” activation function for multiclass classification. They differ from existing state-of-the-art models due to the enhanced capabilities of both models in text classification. Hybrid models combine the different models to make accurate predictions and reduce bias and enhanced the overall results, while state-of-the-art models are incapable of making accurate predictions. Experiments show that the proposed hybrid model achieves 96.02% accuracy, 100% precision on negative tweets, and 99% recall for neutral tweets. The performance of the proposed model is far better than existing state-of-the-art models.
